Do you mean your groom doesn't like to dance so he doesn't want a dance floor?? If that's the case... I bet 8 out of 10 grooms don't like to dance and my FH is one of them! We are still having a dancefloor though... You could rent out a restaurant and have a sitdown dinner but it won't last as long as a dancing wedding would. I think your guests will get bored just sitting there.

I agree...my FH HATES to dance...but thats what makes a fun party...i dunno what else you could do then just have a very intimate small dinner type celebration

What about doing a daytime wedding outside? Then everyone can just mingle. You could also just have a string quartet playing.

or at a vineyard, with wine tours and tasting and entertainment to listen to/watch

what about a cocktail reception with just passed hors d'oeuvres? Instead of a first dance you could say a few words to everyone?

We went to two weddings where there was no dancing...people just talked to each other. I must admit, however, that it got a bit boring at both weddings after a while...

You might want to play games similar to those played at bridal showers?

What if you rented casino tables and had games like that?

Do you like to dance? I wouldnt get rid of a dancefloor altogether just b/c he doesnt like to dance. You can just scratch the 'first dance' and still dance.

My DH hates to dance so he spent most of the night talking to family and his friends.

Maybe you could do a cocktail party with finger foods but still be able to keep the dancefloor.

I love that idea!

An 07 bride did that...

I'd do it, but I planned so much entertainment already and my family loves to dance, even though FH and I ... not so much.

If you are up for something unique, maybe bowling?
If it was a casual affair, perhaps people could play chess or checkers. Maybe you could have performers of some sort? I think if you had a pretty outdoor venue nobody would care, they would just sit around and eat and drink and enjoy the fresh air.

Wow! Thank you all for your help! I decided that I want a wedding to reflect my fiancee and I. I honestly want to spend time with him and our families. I want him to be just as comfy and excited as me! And I think that a wedding is for the two of us, our vision not my guests!

Thank you all for your help!!!

You could set a hall up like a lounge with couches and comfy sitting areas and do passed apps and drinks. You could have music playing so if people wanna dance they can but nothing has to be defined. I also think that mixed with casino or table games would be alot of fun. Maybe you can rent out a bar for the night instead of a hall.

I think the casino night would be a blast. Even people that don't normally gamble would have fun with play money.
But honestly - just b/c your groom doesn't dance doesn't mean that you can't have a dance floor for guests to dance. You could even hire dance troups to perform. I've seen that. They change into different costumes and perform different dances.

ITA.

Neither DH or I are big dancers, but we couldn't give up the idea of a dancefloor. To me, that's a big part of a wedding.

We didn't dance much at our own... but everyone else did and had a blast! We spent most of the night with family and friends...

I know the wedding is about the bride and groom, but I also think that pleasing the guests is part of that.

There are definitely a lot of options though!

What do you envision when you think of your wedding??

Re: No Dance Floor?

I agree with the other ladies, just bc your FH doesnt like to dance doesnt mean you have no dancing for the whole wedding. You can do your first dance, not much dancing you have to do for that honestly. You can just hold eachother going from side to side or if he really doesnt want to just dont do a first dance. The rest let the guests dance while you two mingle.

I have personally never been to a wedding without dancing so don't know what it is like. But it is a good way for your guests to mingle, otherwise most just sit at their own tables talking to eachother. Seeing all our guests on the dancefloor all night having such a great time enjoying themselves was the best part. Since ive been on LIW ive heard MANY girls say that their FH's hate to dance and are shy or uncomfortable doing so, so its normal.

If you are that against though, i would say the casino idea sounds good

DH hates to dance but we still had a dance floor. You don't have to do first dances or mother/son dances if you don't want to. As others stated you can rent out things for a Casino night, play games something to keep your guests occupied so they enjoy themselves. For me I would be bored if I didn't have a dance floor or atleast something to pass the time. Plus that is one thing people usually come to a wedding look forward to is the dancing. But that is just my opinion.
