NO DRESS??? HELP! ( kinda long...sorry)

I'm starting to get nervous about not having a dress( or seeing one in the near future) Everyone is scaring me with the time frames...

The dress I love is at Davids Bridal, and I would buy it there and have it altered elsewhere...problem is that they want me to order a larger size ( one that fits now) then Im comfortable with..I have been losing weight pretty evenly and want to continue to do so before wedding..If I buy a dress now and lose 40 lbs , it will need to be altered more then the typical 2 sizes and I'm afraid it will look bad...

I also only have tried on 2 dresses( not enough in my opinion, although Im sure the one I like is the one, nothing I see compares, its a certain style)

SO...do I go try more dresses on now? Even though Im not happy with my weight? Do I order the dress in say August at a smaller size and just hope that the two sizes smaller it will be altered will still fit?

AHHHHHHHHHHH

sorry, this is very very stressful!

TIA!!!

Does anyone else NOT have there dress with less then 9 months left?

Well I have alittle more time than you, two months, but I have decieded to wait, because I too am losing weight, will porably drop about 80 lbs by the wedding, so I wont be ordering my dress until Nov/Dec, which will give me 4 or 5 months, most dresses take 4 months so I know I will be cutting it close.. but I'm taking the chance..

Do you atleast have an idea of which dress you want?

I know THE dress I want and David's is one of the only places that makes the style at a cheaper then million dollar cost , so I'm holding out...have a lot of weight to lose, but Im TERRIFIED that the dress will be discontinued ( they said they cant promise anything)

I feel better though that Im not the only one

Just wanted to tell you girls I am in the same boat as you!!!! Its a real tough call. People have been worrying me with time frames as well so I am going to look at dresses tomorrow and Thursday just so I have a basic idea of what I want.

I need to lose about 50-60 pounds but I cant see myself losing more than 20-30 before the wedding. I dont want to order it and have it need to be so altered that it looks terrible.

So I figure I will choose my dress and then not order it until maybe August? I dont know....

I dont know if I could deal with cutting it closer than that......its bothering me and others are driving me nuts about it too!

I am sorry you guys are going through this - at least we have each other!!!

I am trying to lose weight too. I ordered my dress when I was down a total of 17 lbs. (Now I'm only down 14 -- shame, shame!!)
I'd be thrilled to lose another 20 by the wedding.

When I ordered my dress, I discussed this with the shop owner, who assured me that the dress could be altered accordingly if I lose that much more weight.

I would be afraid of ordering down too far in sizes, but that's just me. I was told that my dress would take 6 months to come in and that I needed to leave another 2 months for fittings.

What does your dress look like? Can you post a picture? Simple dresses can be taken in a considerable amount -- it is the embroidery & beadwork you need to worry about. When do the women at David's say is your drop-dead ordering date? I'd probably add a month to it, just to be safe.

Also, I don't want to be negative, but you need to consider possibly hitting a weight-loss plateau. Just because you have been losing steadily, doesn't mean you won't get stuck at a certain weight for a few weeks. I'd hate to see you order a dress and have it be too small when the time comes... Good luck!

Here's another thought... You could look into the rush policy and timeline at David's. It will cost you a little extra, but the peace of mind might be worth the added cost!

More time might give you a better idea of where your final size will be.

i just ordered my dress and i have 7 months left - but i was cutting it close - ask them how long it takes for the dress to come in - and ask them what the absolute latest is that you can order the dress -

My wedding is the weekend before yours and I have my first dress appointment on Friday. Don't stress too much. I have a bunch more weight to lose also, but they'll just have to alter it. I hope to order it by the end of July/beg of august. It also depends on the designer- make sure you check that- some take a lot longer to come in. Also remember that dresses get discontinued (so you don't want to wait too long).

My friend ordered hers 5 months before her wedding and everything was fine. Just do some research.

I have 9 1/2 months left and I don't have a dress yet. I think I found the one I want but I've only been to one place. Unfortunately, I have ZERO time to prance around looking at dresses so I just haven't done anything else. The next time I'm going isn't until 6/27 and I still want to hit one more place after that to be sure so I'll be in your position soon.

If you know the one you want and it's at David's Bridal, I see no reason why you would have to order it so soon anyway. They're all off the rack type of dresses that would be in very soon after you ordered it so you definitely have time to wait. How much longer do you think you'll need until you'll be at a proper weight to order the dress?

True...Davids said the dress takes 8-10 weeks to come in..BUT what if something happens or I wait and it gets discontinued, thats what Im worried about because I dislike all the other dresses there...I do feel a little better though...

As far as the weight loss goes, I might reach a stall BUT if I order with 9 even 7 months to go, I am sure to lose at the least 30 lbs and thats about 2-3 MORE dress sizes? I was hoping to lose 50 by wedding time, so I think 30 is reasonable in 9 months..

ETA- I was once this heavy about 4 yrs ago and I excersised and dieted and lost 55 lbs in 5 months...( if only it hadnt creeped back on!)

I don't think you should worry about it too much. How do other girls plan their weddings in 6 months or less and find/love their dresses. I'll be in the same situation but I'm not worried.
