No Garter toss or Bouqet throwing.

Original post by Kricket212

We are 36 & 38 so basically everyone is married & we are kinda the last ones. Atleast in my family anyway.
We are going to do the Anniversary dance. can anyone suggest anything else?

We did not have do the garter toss or bouquet throwing - we are also in our 30's didn't feel that this was something we wanted done.

We did the Anniversary Dance and also had a special second dance for everyone to join in right after our first dance. It was a great way to get everyone on the dance floor and it set a fun tone for the evening. I don't think there were many people left seated at that point.

We also announced anyone's birthdays or anniversaries which were within a week or two of the wedding. You might also ask your DJ to play a game to give away your centerpieces which worked well for us too.

I am planning on giving a speech something like this:
Traditionally, the bride throws the bouquet for a lucky bachelorette to catch and it is supposed to be good luck for her. However, I never really believed in that. So, in leiu of the bouquet toss I would like to give my bouquet to someone who has taught me how to love and how to be loved.

I'm sure you know where this is going...I'm going to give the bouquet to my mom.

what a nice idea...very sweet

One girl on this site did a 'fortune boquet'. I think she called EVERY woman in the room to the floor for the toss. The bo-k split into all different flowers with fortunes attached. I thought that was a pretty neat idea.

We did the tosses - it was actually really fun. And even though many people at our wedding were over 35 MANY were on the floor. Probably because many of our friends are divorced that are in that age group. My cousin took down my bm to get the damn thing its great watching it IoI

But if you don't want to do it then just do a nice dance, its really sweet.

I'm also not into the idea of the garter or bouquet toss.. on top of the fact that we're 36, most of the people at the wedding aren't single..so there would hardly be anyone participating.. I love the idea of the anniversary dance...but I'm thinking I may take the idea from one of the other brides here and give the bouquet to my mom... she has done so much for me and my children with what little she has..and now i won't feel so guilty about dancing with my dad...now I have a way to honor her too!!

we're doing the bo-k toss, but FH doesn't want to do the garter since he thinks it will be weird to be under my dress...LOL

We tossed the BoK and Garter but invited everyone (single or married) to participate. Then I danced with the gentleman who caught the garter and my husband danced with the woman who caught the BoK.

I just went to a wedding a they had the anniversary dance and the longest married couple got the flowers. It was very nice because the couple was married for over 60 years.

i'm not doing garter or bo-k toss...much to my mother's dismay...but like you I'm the last of my friend to get married...most everyone there will be married or engaged.

We're thinking of doing the anniversary dance but I like the idea of giving the flowers to the next couple getting married.

we did this, and were 27 and 28 at the time. people liked the idea a lot.

i've seen it done in reverse... the dj called on the longest married couple, then people that got married later, and finally the bride and groom. great way to get everyone back on the dance floor after dinner!

Hi, Im actually not doing the toss...might do the anniversary dance but might not even do that..the less things you do the more dancing and party to happen..thats how i look at it and age doesnt matter we are 28 and 30 and still choosing not to do the toss..

i'm not doing any of those traditions either... i run from the dance floor when the mc announces for all the 'single ladies to get out there!'
i've been to so many weddings and have never seen the anniversary dance!

omg me too, and people shove me on! I finally got my ring, now can you spare me the public embarassment? THANKS!!!!

Thats cool. MY Bm are as follows....
16 yr old
Then my sister, BF & FH cousins wife
They are all married with kids.
My Family was talking and on my side of 60 people...very small. This is the last wedding until the kids grow up again. Isn't that sad.
I hate being last. LOL

I was just reading this now....
I'm 42 and definitely the last to get married, my cousin and BM is married TEN years today and she is 8 years younger than me.
Talk about feeling really old.

I'm giving my bo-K to my godmother but on the side because she'll get all teary and won't be able to handle it in front of everyone. Then maybe I'll tie the fortunes (which is a GREAT idea!) to the throw away one and give them to each of my cousins who are all still young.

Although at my sister's wedding, she did the toss and my 16 year old cousin (looks 25) caught it and then the best man caught the garter. Well, they had the best man approach my cousin and then they blind folded him and then switch out my cousin for my aunt's mother who is a spunky 70 year old red haired Italian lady. When they took the blind fold off of the best man, instead of my cousin, he had a 70 year old woman sitting in front of him. That was GREAT!
