No Rehersal Dinner???

No Rehersal Dinner???

So is it weird not to have a rehersal dinner? Our BP is all coming from out of town. Parents on both sides have not offerent to host it which means the tab would be on us again. this would mean I would have to cut back a little on the wedding reception stuff... I dont really want to. Most of my FHs groomsmen will not arrive till the mornign of the wedding anyway sicne they are traveling from OOT. Is it bad not to have it. Should I just maybe invite those who might be around just out to a little dinner and maybe just discuss how things are going to go down??
What do you think???

Also our ceremony is at the RH. It will be about a 20 min interfaith ceremony. Not sure if that matters.

to each their own and i guess ppl can flame if they want to---but i really feel that RDs are a waste of money and unnecesary. no offense to others who have them---but especially if you are having your ceremony at the RH--there's nothing to really rehearse....it can be done on the wedding day before people arrive.

while its nice to have an RD to get OOT guests and BP together....sometimes RDs get sooooo expensive that its such a financial undertaking that the family or the bride & groom have to dish out additional. don't feel bad if you don't have one...a LOT of people don't. our 'RD' was my mom making some food for a few people at her house while we just listened to music and danced in the living room.

I was set on not having a rehersal dinner because we're putting so much money into the wedding and on top of a reception, the bridal party wants a reheral dinner. BUT, I was also thinking that people would be expecting a dinner afterwards and I wouldnt know how to tell them well, ur going to reherse and then go home. So we were probably going to get some catered food and do it at my dad's friend's back yard, he has a great view of the ocean.

I'm not having a RD. I'm getting married at the RH in a 15 minute ceremony. Typically today I believe the RD is mosltly to accommodate OOT guests so they have something to do the night before the wedding, but there is really nothing to rehearse. The DOC will tell you when to walk down the aisle, how to hold hands, etc.

I'm not having a RD. I too will be getting married at the RH.....I don't see why it would be necessary.

we are having one - we are getting married at the RH but us, our parents and bridal party are all staying at the hotel the night before - so it will give us something to do the night before - FH's parents will be hosting the dinner - i think it will be nice and like i said it gives us all something to do that night b/c we will all be at the hotel....our officiant is going to come to do a quick run through so we dont have to do it the day of the wedding - we are taking pics before the ceremony at the RH and i dont want to waste time doing a rehearsal when we need that time for photos - also even though we are seeing eachother prior to the ceremony i dont really want to do the rehearsal right before it actually happens...but i think RH ceremonies dont really 'need' a rehearsal anyway - we just want to meet with our officiant before the wedding and we want to have something to do the night before otherwise we probably wouldnt do one at all...

You can do what ever you want. My friend did coffee and cake after hers. We are doing like a bbq low key thing at my aunts b/c we don't have the $ or space.

We did not have a rehersal dinner because we did not have a rehersal.
We got married at the RH, so our 'rehersal' was a quick run down of what would happen, who does what, when.
Someone usually tells you what to do and how to line up your BP, and in your case, it will be the Maitre'D.

We will have our 'Rehersal Dinner' after the fact during the summer as a bbq at our place.

Save your money for more important stuff, like the wedding itself.

You don't have to have a RH. In your case it sound like a waste especially since GM aren't arriving until the morning of the wedding. We decided to have one even though we are getting married at the RH. We are having a lot of OOT guests that are arriving the day before the wedding and staying at the hotel. Since you haven't booked your hall yet, make sure that you can practice the morning of and that your BM will be there to assist you.

I am , but it is more for the OOT family and friends then the bridal party since I am getting married at the reception hall. If my father wasn't paying for it, I would have had a bbq or something small for the OOT guests .

Totally not necessary to have one, I have been in 2 different weddings where they did not have a rehersal dinner

we aren't having one either for this reason. FMIL keeps asking about it, but i don't need her to waste her money on this when there is no rehearsal. i might just meet up with OOT guests the night before for dinner or drinks.

a friend of mine had a 'thank you' dinner for BP and family 2 nights before to give BP gifts and 'thank' us. I thought about it, but at this point it's not necessary.

i had a rehearsal dinner but i got married in a church. It helped me bc there were some things i didnt know about. but if youre getting married at the RH then there really isnt a rehearsal so i dont think its necessary. Do whatever you like and dont worry about it.

I think if people are spending hundreds of dollars to come and attend or be in your wedding it's rude not to provide them with dinner the night before. Especially when your bridal party is spending a lot of money to be party of 'your day'

I don't has to be extravagent or anything. you can have it at your house or just coffee & cake. I think it's an approrpiate way to say 'THANK YOU' for all you have done for us. Your bridal party has investing A LOT of money & time to be a part of your day....just remember that! I'm sure they would be perferred to spend that $$ somewhere else.

we're not having a RD. we're getting married at the RH & have a tiny bridal party so figured there was no point.

i have to say that i don't think its 'rude' to not provide a meal the nite before the wedding for the BP. if anything, i would think that they might like a nite of rest before the big day. my BP was actually relieved that they didn't have to attend an RD the nite before the wedding! they had other things they needed to do, handle their children, and do their own running around.

the OOT guests that came in for the wedding, came back to my mom's house with us for a little while to just hang out. it was maybe 10 people, but it was totally informal. i think sometimes the idea of a big RD can be overwhelming for some who have had to shell out so much $$ for a wedding as it is. the nite or even week of your wedding, things are so hectic, that i don't think BP members would think someone is rude for not having an RD for them to eat.

i think it would be 'rude' for anyone to expect a RD. Do what you feel comfortable with and what you think is necessary or not. We are not having one and are getting married at the RH.

Like someone already mentioned, coffee and cake at home sound nice.

Or if you want food, have some appetizers you can pop in the oven.

No need to have a big RD if you don't want to. There's no right or wrong.
