No Rehersal Dinner???

Original post by mls282

So is it weird not to have a rehersal dinner? Our BP is all coming from out of town. Parents on both sides have not offerent to host it which means the tab would be on us again. this would mean I would have to cut back a little on the wedding reception stuff... I dont really want to. Most of my FHs groomsmen will not arrive till the mornign of the wedding anyway sicne they are traveling from OOT. Is it bad not to have it. Should I just maybe invite those who might be around just out to a little dinner and maybe just discuss how things are going to go down??
What do you think???

Everyone person has their own opinion and each families feels what is appropriate.

My statement by 'rude' is, I truely believe if people need to be there the night before to RH or whatnot, I think you need provide something even if it's just coffee or dounuts.

RD's are expensive. I've just started looking into them since we're doing our rehearsal the weekend before the wedding because of my date. FH and I are paying for this and now we are re-considering doing it at a restaurant....we may just do something at his house. Mind you our RD would be 35-40 people...and that is $$ we can put into our wedding.

Right now we're torn.

I dno't think it's rude not to have a RD...one of my friends didn't have one and I sure didn't miss it.

I personally think it is a nice thing to do for people who are traveling from out of town. I don't think it is rude not to do it, because if you can't afford, you can't afford it , and people will totally understand. BUT, if you can afford it, even just coffee and cake, it is a nice thing to do for people who are paying a lot of money to travel to your wedding.

I do agree, however, that it does become tiresome for the people who do live in the area to have to drop everything to attend yet another event relating to your wedding. We are having one, but who ever decides to come, decides to come and if people can't make it, i totally understand.

In your case, I don't think it's necessary to have a RD, primarily because the GM won't be arriving till the wedding day. Don't overburden yourself with additional costs---save it to spend on the HM instead

We 're having one because a lot of guests are coming from OOT and I think it's a nice thing to do...we're having a day wedding and they're coming in the night before. It's not really about rehearsing bec. we are getting married at the RH, it's more about getting everyone togther for fun before the big day and not leaving them on their own for dinner when they have flown in just to attend my wedding...if your BP is mostly coming in the morning of, it's not necessary though!

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???

We're not having a Rehearsal dinner.....besides the fact that we are not rehearsing the night before and don't have many OOT guests...my brother got married a few weeks ago and didn't have one, and it was so nice just to be with family, at home, very low key. So I think thats what we are going to do as well!!

I don't think we will. We're getting married at the RH, have a tiny bridal party and few OOT guests. Maybe just a gathering (bbq or whatever) the night before, but nothing formal. I'm glad to hear that a lot of others aren't or didn't because I thought I was the only one.
