No Ring NO Bring

No Ring NO Bring

The rule we're going by is you have to be married, living together, or have been in a serious relationship for over 6 months

Have any of you ladies instituted this rule for your guest list? Have you gotten a lot of slack?

FH & I just cut our guest list by doing this because our room only holds 150 people, and we'd rather more people we know and love than our single friends scrounging around for a 'date' at the last minute.

TIA!

We invited everyone 21 and over with a guest. Over 50% of them opted not to come with one. The majority of people with guests are those in a serious relationship. There are, of course, some friends (and family) who are bringing whoever, but the majority of people are not. I know that some people on here have mentioned having a lot of problems because of this. Just thought i'd let you know! HTH

My thoughts on this are that if a friend has a serious bf/gf obviously invite them. If they are single friends and know others at wedding why would they want to bring a random date?

There are some circumstances where maybe a friend from work might not know anyone so you would invite them with a date.

Def no dates for anyone under 21. When I was in college I never got invited with a date!

I have a lot of single friends and FH does to, I think its a good time for singles to mingle a lot of people meet at weddings!

We pretty much did this. Unless it was someone that we thought would feel too awkward coming solo or being invited solo we just invited them without guests. I'm sure a few people were not happy campers, but whatever, we were over our max.

My whole department is invited since we're so small, so the one woman who's a serial date will just have to suck it, if she gets upset, but then again maybe it'll be paradise for her with all of our single friends!

I hear ya.... a lot of friends are in a relationship, but the few people who aren't are nuts when it comes to dating a hooking up, so they'll all probably find someone at the reception LOL

honestly, I know there's a lot of back and forth posts about inviting people with guests...... I always considered it rude to not invite people with guests and I never understood what people were talking about on here when they said they didn't want to invite people with guests. Well.......

Now, I have a bunch of friends trying to figure out which random person they want to bring so they won't be dancing alone. I am so afraid that there will be a bunch of strangers dancing around us on my wedding day and now there's nothing I can do about it Don't make the same mistake I did.

honestly, i understand the issue of cost and space
but i tried to plan my wedding from a guest's point of view

my main concern was that everyone had a good time and if that meant not coming alone; then so be it

That's what I'm afraid of. I mean I wouldn't bring someone I barely know to a wedding and launch them into a situation where the date doesn't know anyone either. But since I'm paying for the guests I really don't think I can afford for random people as guests.

I had this exact rule when we were doing our guest list- for us it worked out great!!

i think most guests also know that if they bring a date, they should give a bigger gift so i really dont think that most people bring random guys / girls

True, I guess that's a big deterrent

I went with this rule. I got sooooo much slack over it. But I had 370 people. Imagine if I would have let everyone bring a date?? I would be living on the street right now. I just told people that my guest list was already out of control. If they had a problem with it too bad. People who really care about you wont let this stop them from coming.

Exactly! Wait till they get married, and see how they feel.

Yea, neither can I. I put guest for everyone assuming that people who only bring someone if they were seeing the person seriously.... but just the other day I had someone tell me he was thinking about bringing someone he only met like once or twice.. I wanted to be like..... I AM NOT PAYING X AMOUNT OF DOLLARS FOR SOMEONE U MET ONCE!! (but of course I can't say that because since I put 'guest' he can ultimately bring who he wants
