no ring to show for

Original post by luvabul

i feel so bad, my good friend got engaged, they were together when times were great and times were bad...she lives with her FH, but she has no ring she doesnt want something small and not nice ...i guess...and she doesnt want her FH to spend thousands of dollars cuz he just got laid off from work 3 weeks ago...and no one is even taking her being engaged seriously

i just feel bad for her,i know the ring is a great aspect of getting engaged, i remember when i saw mine, my jaw dropped i was just ecstatic and crying and 101 things went thru my mind ...lol

i told her to get a high quality C.Z engagement ring to pass off...until they can afford a real one...than she said she doesnt know if people do that, and she doesnt wana be fake...etc....

ppl started asking her 'oh let me see ur ring' and she has nothing yet....so i just told her to get a temporary replacement, was i wrong to even suggest that idea? i have no idea if ppl actually even do that...sorry to say...

everytime were together, she just stares at other ppls hands...[rings] ....

who cares about the ring honestly! whats important is that they both love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together..no ring in the world could replace that...Some people are sooo superficial...if she wants a cz go for it(you really can't tell the difference) if not who cares..I don't really think you need a ring to justify that you love someone..love is in your heart..

That stinks! I think she should get the fake for now-no one has to know. Isn't it sad that we measure engagement by a ring? I love my ring, but it doesn't show how much I love FH or how committed we are.

LOL LOL.....my girlfriend has been married for five years and I have ALWAYS loved her ring......IT'S FAKE and I had NOOOOOO clue!!!! I seriously could not tell......

Im sorry that people are that way towards your friend and her engagement, unfortunately it has become custom to receive one. She shouldnt let her get it down, it just goes to show how unselfish she is by not putting funds in a bind for a ring.
I would say get a CZ or really anything for that matter. My best friend is engaged and actually insisted on NOT receiving a ring!!! She said she wanted a plasma screen instead

Good Luck to her, and she has a big heart!!!

My FH bought me a small yet beautiful ring from Zales and he is buying me a bigger one next year. I know how she feels it's just the thought of him wanting her to marry him that is carrying her thats very beautiful!

QVC had diamonique that is absolutely stunning and you would never know. They set it in white gold and yellow gold- some even platinum. I say go for it! Who's gonna know the difference?

I second this....my mom has a lot of stuff from them and I can never tell when she is wearing her real diamonds or diamonique

sorry everyone is blowing off her engagement ppl can be so superficial.....well I guess I can't really say that I was so excited when I first saw my ring

ok, here are my $.02:

i was so excited to share that i haven't yet read everyone's replies...so if this has been said before, just disregard

you can do diamonique (i think that's how it's spelled) like some others have mentioned, or you can do cz again like others have mentioned.

the one i wanted to suggest is MOISSANITE. this stuff if a FRACTION of the cost of a diamond and has actually FOOLED PROFESSIONAL JEWELERS!!

btw: i don't think it was a bad suggestion you made to your friend. let's just say i know how she feels and this is a great option.

I agree with all the girls on here, except I don't believe in getting a fake ring. I mean what happens when she gets her real one and it's half the size of the fake one, thats embarrasing.
How about an Irish Clata (promise) ring?
I wore my FMIL's ER till we got mine. I didn't mind at all that it wasn't the ring of my dreams. It meant a lot to us, and thats all that matters.

tell her QVC! No joke that diamonique stuff totally can pass off.....i have a few items from there and EVERYONE thinks its real!

This was going to be my suggestion. I am sure no one will be able to tell the difference.

Re: no ring to show for

My friend was buying a house with his gf and she wanted to be engaged before she moved in. She has a son and didn't want to set a bad example. She emailed him the rings she liked and he got one and proposed. If he hadn't told me I would have never known it wasn't real. The ring is beautiful and when they get more money they will have her ring replaced with a real diamond. But you couldn't tell the difference.

I dont think it was wrong of you to suggest that at all. That is ALWAYS the first thing people ask to see when they know you got engaged, so if it makes her feel better to have one, I think its a great idea. And no one will be able to tell.

A friend of mine is engaged to an Italian man, and the tradition is different there and he actually proposed with a gold band. But they live here and she said she was always sad when people asked to see her engagement ring and she didnt have one. So she went and bought THREE from QVC and mixes and matches them to her outfits!

I dont think I would get that many, but I think its a great idea to get a CZ and just upgrade when you can. Theres no difference between doing that and starting off with a small (but real) engagement ring and adding baguettes later in life if you have the money and choose to do so.
