No Shot Policy!

Does your hall have this policy?
And if so do you have a problem with this?

Re: No Shot Policy!

My hall has this policy. The reason why is, they don't want to be responsible for people getting out of hand or having to drive home and getting into an accident. We had an option of signing a waiver and putting money into escrot for anyone who needed a taxi.

They said that if the wedding party wanted to do shots, just to come over and get John (the owner) and we could do them. But not for the whole wedding.

I think there is plenty of alcohol there. If you really need a shot. Get your alcohol strait up on the rocks! It is the same thing!

We opted to get a Strawberry Vodka Ice Sculpture with a spout on it for Cocktail Hour. That would be 'the shots' for the night. And I LOVE Strawberry Vodka! ^

I went to a wedding last year where the bride did shot after shot, and she wound up throwing up next to the head table!s NO SHOTS FOR ME! —

FYI Watermill brides...they do not serve shots! I guess we can ask for a 'small glass - no ice please'

Our hall told us the bar tenders don't allow people to go 'nuts' with shots - whatever that means & they won't make Long Island Iced Teas because people get too drunk off them too fast.

the way our hall explained it was this: Yuo can have a shot, but it cannot be a pure shot of alcohol.....so...You have to have it on an ice cube!

ha ha!
that's funny.
That's liek in college when my freshamn RA told us, we can olny have feamle overnight guests, so we better make friends with the guys up or downstairs

You could always aorder something straight up, ( like wiskey) and subtly dispers it into empty water glasses. We've done that at parties where we didnt' have enough shot glasses. You jsut have to pur carefully.

It might be better if my hall has this policy, but my friends will probably complain.

I never asked. But good point....shots can be very dangerous!

I hope mine has this policy.

It isn't a frat party or the prom (though my FH friends from business school may think so). I will probably ask them NOT to give out shots.

You went to a prom where they gave out shots? I am jealous as hell.

I think the whole beer bottle policy comes from their insurance policy. Although glasses can break, they have a higher threshold. Beer bottles shatter easier and are the first thing someone grabs when a fight ensues. Thats why most catering halls prefer to pour beer into a glass.

I know its bottle beer. I'm just use to going to weddings that let you walk around with the bottles. Its not even an issue with us. Personally i don't want people dropping bottles all over the place, and making a mess.

Can't they drop a glass just as easy as they can drop a bottle?

If someone got in a fight at my wedding, I would take them out back and run them over with a car. No seriously, without a doubt.

They look like crap anyway when they start to accumulate.

AHHHHHHHHH < Dont tell me this...I would have booked elsewhere J/K but I love shots....well less chance of 'mishaps' after one too many I guess!

our hall has this policy...which I like because the groomsmen definitely don't need to be doing shots!!! They are the ones I am worried about I don't mind it

I think I need to look into this....our families are very different when it comes to drinking. my side, every now and then, but my parents don't drink at all, and his side, well let's just say they get a little out of hand when they drink. there is no such thing as one or two drinks. i think a no shot policy is something i need to keep in the back of my head..

Mine has the no shot policy, as well as the no beer bottle policy. Both fine by me, I'd rather it doesn't look like a frat party...

That is true too...although I want our wedding to be fun, I want it to be an elegant event...not frat party fun!!! And although some of my friends (and maybe some family members) may wish we were having shots...I have seen them all drunk...don't need that at our wedding!!!

We had this policy & I definitly felt it was the best. I also did not get bottled beer, not only because it costed additional I didn't want it in my pictures, but my DH loves Heinken, so he asked the Matre'd if he could get one, so he ended up having a bottle of beer in his hand in just about every video shot of him on the dance floor! Oh well, you can't control everything & I still had the best time of my life!
