No shot policy???

Original post by ilovehimso1029

Hey Ladies,
I read online that Tall Grass CC has a NO SHOT POLICY. Since it is Lessings owned is this true for all Lessings properties? Is this a common practice for RH's?

Re: No shot policy???

We specifically requested that our hall not allow shots. We don't think they're appropriate at weddings... We don't mind people getting liquor on the rocks, but didn't want people throwing back shots at the bar.

my reception hall didn't mention this... but we requested certain liquors be present specifically for shots. Nobody there is going to get so wasted they can't stand up... but I feel like if a guest wants a shot they should be able to get it... I'd rather them do shots, then have them go to the bar, and the bartender doesn't have half the stuff they are asking for. That is what happened at one of my friend's weddings.

yeah i wanna say everybody did shots at my e-party and nobody got out of control or stupid..ill be honest with you if there is a person who normally gets real drunk and out of control they will get like that regardless of shots or not, theyll just have more and more drinks.

I'm with you on this one. The method in which the liquor is ordered has no effect on how much people are going to drink. If they want to get twisted they will find a way regardless of using shots or drinks. We're all adults, who wants their guests to be baby sat all night?!

My hall does have a no shot policy, but it is to cover their asses... When I asked my BM about this, he said well we do have a no shot policy, but for you guys, the bridal party, we can get around it.

I for one love the no shot policies and will ask for one if JT doesnt have one. There is no reason for people to get completely wasted on my wedding day before the cocktail hour even ends. I went to my friends wedding last month and all of our friends headed straight to the bar to look for shots. Some even tried to get one before the ceremony began. Luckily the bride had requested the policy. There are some people who can hold their liquor fine and wont abuse shots, but do you really wanna chance people over doing it and then getting sick during your reception? Even with the no shot policy i thought for sure this one guy at our table was going to lose his dinner by the time desert was served. He kept ordering scotch on the rocks and straining out the ice once he got back to the table. Needless to say he was completely passed out in a pile of drool by the end of the night.

The only thing i think should be allowed is a celebratory shot if the bride or groom requests it.

a lot of places have that policy.
my brother's wedding at the Swan Club had that rule but i'm not sure if it was the RH or him that made the rule.
Either way... we just ordered a glass of whatever liquour and mad our own shots at the table.

no worries ladies - all a 'no shot 'policy means is that they dont have actual shot glasses. . . but they get you your 'shots' in other ways. . . like a regular glass but filled up a little bit with whatever alcohol you want

or like at my brother's wedding - um - they handed me a bottle and a tray filled with glasses and walked away LOL

My best friend got married at the East Wind and they have a no shot policy. We ordered vodka on the rocks, SoCo and LIme on the rocks.... whatever you want, and then an extra glass. Take the ice out and what's left? a shot!! Worked perfectly.

I know some of you think the shots ruin a wedding but my wedding is this Saturday and I plan to be one of the people doing shots, however we have to do it.

Many places have this policy, and while I for one wholeheartedly agree with it, there are ways around it, as many have pointed out.

thats the thing though, just like i said earlier, if there are people who normally get trashed no matter what, shots or no shots they will get wasted...its not just shots that get people drunk, regular drinks do too...and if those who drink alot can't get shots, they'll keep drinking and drinking and drinking

exactly... it's the same amount of alcohol in a glass of wine, a shot, and a bottle of beer. at least that's what all my health classes taught me. shots just get you there quicker b/c there's nothing to water them down.
if people have their heart set on gettin drunk... they'll get drunk. shots or not. especially when there are so many ways around the 'no shot' rules.

I notice that most RH have a no shot policy. Mine does as well. In fact I was at a wedding a few weeks ago and some of my friends were doing shots but at a certain time the bartender cut them off for shots.

hmmm....wonder who was doing shots.

Even after we (oops - let it out) got cut off from shots we still did them. He poured straight vodka into a glass and gave us glasses to pour ourselves. love it!

Re: No shot policy???

Yes, people will get drunk whether or not they can do shots. However, some of us just don't like the idea of people throwing back shots at our wedding. We specifically asked our hall not to allow shots.

And I'm NOT worried that someone will get crazy drunk or anything... I just don't want them done at my wedding. I don't feel it's the place.

I FULLY understand not everyone feels this way - Heck, shots were done at my brother's wedding!
