I am having a minimal number of stations and lot of passed, however I've been to weddings before w/o them and I think they are very elegant.

Re: no stations?
I've been to a couple of weddings that just had passed hor deourves.
The only thing I had a problem with was that I think I got one appetizer at each wedding because people were crowding the area where the waitstaff was coming from.

Re: no stations?
I went to a wedding without stations and very few passed trays. My only problem with is was that since I was used to there being a lot of food at weddings, so I did not eat a lot before the wedding. Some of your guests may do or expect the same. I walked away from the wedding still hungry and pretty tipsy, since weddings involve a lot of alcohol as well. But at the wedding I went to there was only one small entree with very little food. So, I think you can do the no stations if there is enough food during the sit down dinner to compensate. JMO

We're not having stations either. Instead, we're having antipasta, which is normally offered as a station, on the tables before the meal. Our caterer is also passing out lemonade and some sort of savory biscuit things before the ceremony, for people who haven't eaten much or have driven a long way.

That's a pretty good discount. I would just make sure you talk to your banquet manager about the server to guest ratio to ensure that some of the issues mentioned do not come up.

Re: no stations?
I was recently at a wedding in baltimore that didn't have stations. They had a cheese and fruit table and then all passed trays. I think it was fine with everyone....we were too busy talking at the bar to really care! I will say that it was difficult for me because I am a vegetarian and I had to sit and wait until meatless items came around. But, to save three thousand dollars, I say go for it!

I went to a wedding out of state with no stations during the cocktail hr. Didn't miss the stations... was too busy talking and drinking.
Just make sure they have enough waiters circulating with the food!

This is exactly what we are doing. Cheese and fruit/veggie station. Passed Hors d'oeuvres.
