Instead of using your little icon friends why don't you respond with actual grown up words?

Because its the same winded arguement over and over when I try to explain fact to some people. Not worth it.

Like pissin in the wind (oh wait... i can't say that anymore without sounding like an anti-american troop hater LOL).

Its like shovelin' ____ against the tide. There we go.

Since you like my icons... here is another one on my thoughts on where this topic is heading.

Stop relying on rhetoric in the news, consider reading a book or two, or maybe perusing altenative sources of media and you might reconsider your ill-formed theories about the 'terrorist' threat and our presence in Iraq.

LOL... I quote the President word for word on HIS REASON for invading iraq... and you claim these are MY THEORIES?

BLAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Keep digging.

Re: NO WMD!

DJ- I'm still not sure WHAT Bush's reason for invading iraq was, eben in his eyes, he changed his mind so many times. One of the big ones that was put forth was WMD's. I think it bears noticing that they completed the searcha dn determned that there were no WMD's because that backs up the argument many of us have been making. It's also interesting to note because according to pollsters as much as 40% of the US believed that WMD's had been found at various points throughout this 'war' There are many people who are ill educated about this topic. I know for a fact that you aren't one of them, but to many people who feel the way you know I do, all of this that's put in front of us seems to make it unmitigatably evident that this was was started on false pretenses.

yep

here's the deal folks

no matter who wins, no one is ever going to be happy. If Kerry won, there'd be just as much complaining from Bush supporters on this site, it's just the same old cycle

And of course, for those who say, back your knowledge up on facts, read a book, blah blah blah. What makes them facts? Because an anti-Bush book said so? The 'facts' that come out against Bush, have as many holes in them as the ones that are anti-Democrat. None of the information is objective. So please spare me the 'Bush supporters are uneducated garbage' because it'd be the same thing the other way around.

As for an unjust war and the troops. I support them and I think the cause is just whether or not the weapons of MD were in play or not. The president said that he would go after the terrorist cells as well as ANY COUNTRY HARBORING TERRORISTS. But anyway, these troops were not dragged off to war. they entered the military voluntarily and when you do that you enter with the knowledge that you do what you are asked to do, no questions asked. So, I feel bad for the ones that were lost, but I do NOT buy this crap that they were forced to fight an unjust war.

So just because the President says that he is invading Iraq to eliminate the 'terrorist' threat it is fact?

Did he not also say there were Weapons of Mass Destruction? Guess you fell for that too, huh?

and because the dems say it's wrong--that's fact?

With that said... i'm done with this particular thread. I'll let the Anti-Bush nut-huggers have their way.

Re: NO WMD!

No one is saying that anyone was 'forced' to do anything. However this coutnry supported his decision to go to war for erroneous (possibly false) reasons. However, the justification for the war, or the reason why Bush took us to war does not exist. So of course he can come up with other justifications like eliminating terrorist threats and spreading freedom and liberty, because those are also issues that Americans support. But, if you took him at his word and the initial reason why he said he was taking our nation to war, it was to find and destroy Saddam weapons of mass destruction because we were in grave danger, the world was in grave danger.

As for going to WAR with any coutnry harboring terrorists, well we shoul be in Saudi Arabia, parts of West Africa, Korea (they have real weaspons of mass destruction) Syria and Iran, but we are not. ARe these nations no less a serious threat than Iraq?

Believe me, I know they were not dragged off to war - my brother signed up 7 years ago knowing that the possibility that he could go to war was there. When he found out he would go to war and fight for his country, he was thrilled beyond comprehension! And he's gone off 3 times to help fight this fight. He is in his glory and LOVES what he does. NO ONE dragged him anywhere.
Does that mean I have to like it?
Does that mean I should be thrilled that he could be killed at any moment thousands of miles away from the family that loves him?
Sorry - but I just can't do that.

unfortunately that's the b*tch of it -- the family left behind

but i'm tired of the media depicting our troops as these mindless lightbulbs who have been dragged off to a foreign land against their will. Even if you make the argument that the government is recruting the lower class with no education and no other options, I don't buy that. They're people, they can say yes or no -- there are always options.

It's like any other job. You are fully aware of the job description when you sign up. You'll be doing things you may not agree with, like any other job. But, you know all this ahead of time -- it's part of the job.

So, while I feel bad for any family that has someone over there or who has lost someone -- I do not feel 'sorry' for the troops. This is their job that they voluntarily agreed to. And at the end of the day, they don't want us feeling sorry for them. They deserve respect, not pity

Call me hard, call me callous, but I'm just tired of all of this liberal propaganda that paints the military as these defenseless sheep against a powerhouse that has no idea what they are doing. Whether or not I disagree with the war, I will never feel sorry that the troops are fighting for us.

wait a second - i think i agree with you!!!!

the troops (for the most part, at least my brother and that is my perspective) are doing what they want to be doing and are happy to be there. my brother signed up to straighten his life out after tough high school days....but he could have been gone in 4 years....he chose knowingly to sign up for more years.

But I look at it all (selfishly perhaps) from my perspective. I know we have to have troops out there fighting these battles.
I just wish it didn't have to be my baby brother.

So when I hear that they originally went over there for this fear of WMD that never existed....it pisses me off just a bit.

I think it's understandable...but that's me.
(And, I also cant' stand the Pres......not just because of this - I never voted for him the first time either)
don424 Posted:

Re: NO WMD!

hey, you're not selfish at all, if i had someone over there, i'd feel the same way and would want them home

as far as the WMD, well OK, i'll admit he made a big blunder there, but I look at it like this

After 9/11, he said that we would target all terrorist nations AND ALL NATIONS THAT HARBOR TERRORISTS. Iraq was one of the biggest proponents of this, Hussein had alot of money and he was unquestionably supporting and funding terrorist activity. To me, that's the reason we're there and I agree that it was dumb to keep making WMD the focal point when we had no proof.

And if we never got to Iraq and Hussein pulled off a terrorist bombing, we'd all be saying, why didn't we get Hussein when we had the chance in 1991.

Re: NO WMD!

I agree that something had to be done about the monster Hussein.....I had tons of students from the Middle East who all felt the impact of his terror.

But Bush really didn't need to go on and on about WMD when there were plenty of other reasons to go over there. I can't stand people who lie to get what they want...and that's what he did. And it bugs the crap out of me

i agree with you to a point

i agree he should not have hyped the WMD, unless he had solid proof that they were there and he did not

i don't think he lied though, his only fault is that he should have been more informed before he based his decision on something he couldn't 100% prove
palebride Posted:

Re: NO WMD!

well, personally, if I were starting a war...I would get as many facts as I could before I started it. So if one of the major reasons that I said I started that war for....later turned out to be false....I would expect people to put the fault on me.
He has a pretty important job - it's his responsibility to be informed!

If I was telling my students of two years that a noun was an action word.....and it was later found to be false - I would take the blame for it.
Obviously, I'm oversimplifying to relate it to my own boring life
