No Words of Advice?

Original post by Sunset Renee

I have been having a hard time getting into the 'Wedding Planning' - This site had def. helped - but I cannot seem to shake the thought that the way that Weddings are now - they are SOOOooooo far from what they are actually supposed to mean - You and Your Soulmate, taking vows to Love Each Other Forever. Everytime I am looking into planning something else, I am getting Sooo Frustrated with thisss!!!!! I Unfortunately, am NOT Having Fun! Isn't this supposed to be Fun???

I guess a lot of these feelings come from the fact that MY Dream Wedding is my FH and I with our bare feet in the sand at sunset on an Island....He DID say we could do a vow renewal on our HM so that I will still get my Dream Wedding - But other than that - I am Planning a Wedding for Everyone Else that wants me to have a 'Traditional Wedding'. Not for nothing, I am not your traditional type of girl!!! I suppose now I just grin and bear it...

I totally agree with what you are saying! I am having a blast planning...but when it comes down to it it's not about the wedding its going to be about the marraige...My parents had their wedding in a church hall...they had a blast with all of their friends and family. Now it's about who has the best RH, and who can spend the most on things..lol....It's easy to get caught up in that and I do sometimes also...but I totally agree with you.

If that is what is important to you and focus on all that stuff. Focus your planning on the ceremony and things that you personally find important.

i am doing the EXACT same thing. we were ready to fly to PR or the Bahamas. Instead we are having the traditional style wedding that I never wanted. I was miserable over it for a long time - I even hated dress shopping.

I've since accepted it and now that it's getting closer we are having fun with it. I think the hardest thing about planning a wedding is not letting yourself, your dreams, and your plans be influenced by others. Everyone always has something to say and you can't make them all happy. at the end of the day, it's YOUR wedding so make the best of what you are doing and try to enjoy it.

I think when I got engaged I was more hyped about everything. I seem to simmer down for awhile then realize I need to start doing things (like order my dress!) so it comes in waves. I think for me also my life is just busy (my mom, buying a house, working 2 jobs, school) and all the other activities that I have going on so it's not always the first thing on my mind.

I don't think in anyway we are not focusing on what this is. To us it's not a big party. It's a celebration of FH and I becoming one family.

Sorry to crash, but I wanted to share. I HATED planning my wedding. It was 18 months of stress and anxiety - there were some fun moments, but for the most part I could have done without it! As much as people tell you to do what you want, it doesn't always work that way. I wanted destination - my dad and in-laws don't fly. I wanted beach - that would have been impractical for the number of guests ... I wanted small, but thought I would some day regret not having all my friends and family there. Also, I don't really care about small details, but you sort of have to for this. I don't want to be bothered choosing flowers, picking out all the cocktail hour food, who walks with who in the bridal party. I felt inundated with all these meaningless details (to me - I know they are important to some people, so I'm not trying to take that away from anyone). I like simple, so I tried to plan as simple as possible, but it still involved a lot of details!

At the end of the day, I don't regret the compromises I made for the wedding. I had the time of my life. Having all of those people there WAS a lot more important than a destination wedding or the visual of the wedding on the beach for me. It didn't matter where we were - we were happy and had a wonderful time.

So don't feel bad that you're having a difficult time. It's not uncommon - wedding planning isn't for everyone. Maybe you should even look into a wedding coordinator. Like people have mentioned - what's important is that you're marrying your FH. I personally feel like the rest of it is just a big party with friends and family, so try not to take it TOO seriously. I know it's a wedding, and a lot of money, but the reception is just time to celebrate.

GOOD LUCK!

I have hated a mjority of the planning. I hate compromising, consulting and asking permission.

I loved cake tasting!
