Hello girls. We think we might have found 'the house'! :) Its in North Babylon, South of Southern State. Its off Sylvan Road. Can anyone tell me about North Babylon schools, good or bad? I have heard mixed reviews. The elementry school in that area our children would go to is Wm. DeLuca. As always, thanks for you all your help. P.S. Time is of the essence, since we might put in an offer soon!!!

Hello Denise: It is so great to hear that you have found what could be your future home. I have lived in North Babylon all my life and still am living in the house in which I was raised until I get married in 2004. I've attended the schools in North Babylon so I can tell you first hand how they are. I know exactly where Sylvan is in fact it's 2 min from my house. This part of North Babylon is not bad at all in fact it is good because it is close to all the schools. I went to William E. Deluca, def the nicest el school in the district (DECADES ago it seems lol), Robert Moses, and NBHS. All of them are decent schools, I have never had a problem with the schools or the neighborhood whatsoever. I would say that the elementary and middle schools you should not worry about at all. The high school, I have heard, has gone down a bit but that is only due to the changing times and you would see that anywhere. Keep in mind you also have the option of private school for high school if it really is a concern, when you reach that point in your child's education. Overall, though, it is definately a good school district and you have nothing to worry about. If you love the house I would go for it!! Good luck and let me know what happens!! I second what JN2004 said! I grew up in North Bablyon also and actually lived right off of Miller Ave (which is off of Sylvan), on Higgins Street! its a great neighborhood. I went to Phelps Lane Elementary (which is now the Town Hal Annex), Rober Moses and NB High. The schools are good!

Thank you, you were! :-) Since you are so familiar with the area, the house is on Barnfield Place. Its off Hughes. Who knows, maybe we are neighbors becuase its 2 mins from Sylvan too! Let me know. And thanks for the information, I feel much better now. See I have seen people cringe when I told them N. Babylon and I don't understand. The schools got very good ratings academically.! We can't afford West Islip and no one seems to understand that, my family thinks that is the best town. Oh well...

I graduated in 1995 ....and I live off of Belmont Ave We aren't neighbors but we are pretty darn close I live more towards the firehouse on Belmont Ave.

Wow - Im another North Babylon Graduate. It was so long ago for me that any information I could give you would no longer apply. My parents and sister still live there.
If you take a look at the real estate section in www.newsday.com you will find a section on schools. It gives you scores for the 4th and 8 grade test. Another source of good information on schools is www.greatschools.com
