Hi All! I just got engaged Saturday and I have headaches already!
I'll preface this by saying the following: 1. We've only been to two places. 2. I don't know what I am talking about 3. FH is from Jersey, trying to make him LOVE a Long Island wedding 4. We are concerned with OOT guests. We want to a. have a bus from jersey bring guests and bring them home and b. have a hotel nearby with a shuttle if at all possible (unless its right next door). 5. I like the idea of being right off the 135, since it's close to the LIE and straight due north of my hometown and ceremony location.
UGH, So we go to NRC and FH. After a LOT of wine at both locations, I am so confused (lesson:don't accept a whole bottle of mondavi cabernet at the bar!).
I LOVE the one wedding at a time at the NRC. Love the clean lines and the ability to really 'make it your own' with flowers, etc. Thought the food selections sounded great. But, with the viennese hour, it was about 20ish MORE than Fox Hollow. (They threw in the ice scultpures and would 'work' with us on seafood at cocktail hour)

Re: North Ritz vs. Fox Hollow - HELP - LONGest ever!
Now at Fox Hollow, we got a great rate. Got thrown in a pasta course, no viennese (this is one con - the room seemed small and we wouldn't want a viennese crowding the dance floor), but we got a free desert tower, free coffee/cap roll cart, free wine, and $10 pp for the seafood boat which FH drooled over. Photo studio and nice bridal suite.
What I didn't like about at Fox Hollow was that it seemed a little factory like, the cocktail hour was a bit far to the reception room, i didn't love the reception room - too small, didn't love the bar area in the room and we couldn't go outside cause we are getting married in the winter.
However, its next door to the Inn and I am lazy and love that. After paying for a bus to jersey, it would be nice not to pay for a shuttle to a hotel.
Questions: 1.Anyone know if the Fox Hollow will let you do a later start for an afternoon wedding? Say 2 or 3 pm (I don't want an EARLY EARLY ceremony at church). 2. Does anyone know if I can bring down the North Ritz Club's price a bit (or get something thrown in - like a pasta course?) 3. Any hotels do shuttle for North Ritz? 4. Anyone have advil?
HELP! PS Happy Gobble Gobble!

my only opinion right now is that when you are talking about the fox hollow you are using alot of 'i don't like this'.....just something to think about, don't settle, you've only seen two places, try checking out a few more. don't stress, this is only the beginning!!!!

You seem pretty sure you want a LI wedding, but I think before you make a final decision you should look at some halls in NJ too. From what I've heard, the prices are a lot better and you can get more for your money, not to mention I'm sure they have halls that are just as beautiful as what you may find on LI.

Going this Sunday! I am a little nervous because my parents are dead-set against it.
We got great prices for a winter wedding in both places tho, so I'm not sure how much lower it can get in Jersey.
My big issue with Jersey is that for the rest of my life, every celebration will be there.

I favor NRC because of the obvious. I also wanted to have my wedding at the Fox Hollow. I then realized that one wedding at a time is extremely important. Needless to say I'm glad that I made the right decision to go to NRC...
GOOD LUCK!!

I have to agree with Stefanie. North Ritz is the one I would have to side with, especially if you find alot of 'I don't likes' in you conversations about Fox Hollow. I would also look into halls in New Jersey from what I've heard from other girls is that the halls are alot cheaper and just as nice as long island. This will also save you in the long run in buses and shuttles(unless you will have to do the same for your long island guests now). I found a magazine called Wedding Sites & Services and it has all reception halls from Brooklyn, Manhatten, Long Island, Queens, Staten Island and New Jersey. It gives you alot of info. too about general pricing. Try it www.weddingsitesandservices.com

I can only give you advice as to the North Ritz because although we made an appointment to see Fox Hollow we never made it. I had the Fox Hollow appointment right after seeing the North Ritz and FH and I cancelled it the second we walked in the NRC.
WIth respect the pricing - they really didnt go down in price with us - but they DO throw in stuff - the did when we booked and the even did in our final menu picking. The staff at the North Ritz has been such a pleasure to work there. I cannot wait to have my wedding there - in a little over than one month!

I personally like NRC for the saame reasons you did...one wedding at a time, your place to make you own, etc. I did not get married there b/c I got a much MUCH better price at the Haarbor Club, and I loved the day-long view of the Harbor.
Also, did you try any places in westchester, Manhattan, Staten Island, brooklyn or queens? There are a ton of great places here too, and it might serve as a good compromise.
ETA: I did not check out the FH because when DH I & got engaged we decided that we would NOT have our reception at any place we went to a prom (which eliminated 10 places between the 2 of us), Fox Hollow being one of them. I just didn't want anyone to think I have anything againt the FH

Re: North Ritz vs. Fox Hollow - HELP - LONGest ever!
OK...well i am biased since i got married at the FH. 1. I never saw another wedding the entire day..So i wouldn't worry about that part unless you just like having the entore place devoted to you. I felt that wasn't necessary...But i was concerned that i would see another bride...I didn't
2. If you thought the Winter Garden room was too small (which in my case it was) there is the Briar Fox AND the Garden Terrece..The GT is HUGE.
3. I am pretty sure that the times are set there as to when the wedding receptions start. And i don't think they are going to change it for you. But it is worth asking.
4. I loved the FH and only have great things to say about it..I never been to the NRC. But from reading your post it does sound like you prefer the NRC...SO i say go for it
Good Luck

I loved North Ritz when I visited...the only reason I didnt book is I needed a place where I can directly after church, and I was limited there....
but otherwise its fantastic place....absolutely GORGEOUS!

Not to throw you for a complete loop but i was just looking at halls myself and i just booked the Woodbury country club which is a little east of the fox hollow and we got an amazing price and alot for our money. We do not have that much money to throw around and they gave us an amazing price for the veinesse hour. check it out if you can and there are many hotels right in the area.

I'm going to check out Woodbury CC maybe in a couple of weeks.
I'm one of those people that likes to buy things immediately so this is difficult!
thanks for all your input!!!
my new post will explain my current dillema!

Re: North Ritz vs. Fox Hollow - HELP - LONGest ever!
ok my stepsister and stepbrother got married at the FH and my other stepbrother got married at NRC and the other one got married at the Jericho Terrace. All were nice BUT the FH was great, I even looked to book there even though our family has been there twice. I dont want to offend anyone who chose NRC or Jericho Terrace. I personally didnt like the decor of NRC and didnt like the location, being right across the street from a supermarket. The food was eh but yes the cool thing was it was the only wedding BUT at the FH not once did I ever see the other bride or even in the bathroom it was guest that were from our familys wedding. You really wont run into the other guests at all and your bridal suite is attached to your room in the back which is very cool too. I also didnt like the set up of the room of the NRC they changed it b/c of the fire code. and the bar only 1 in the room dont know if they changed it and everyone gathered in that area making it very uncomfortable for guest at the tables right in front of it. it was very crowded and I had to wait like 8 min just to get closer to get a drink. lots of guest complained about that. and then it was smoky they let her have her guest smoke at the bar cause otherwise your guest would be out smoking the entire time and your room will look empty now at the FH your guest can go right to the side doors open from the reception and enjoy the reception as they smoke up- cigars or whatever, lol. and you can see them and it still makes your room seem full b/c they are full length doors and long windows. in my opinion the grounds of the FH were much nicer than the NRC. its secluded back there than the NRC we can hear the traffic while we were in the cocktail hour it was outside.
