North Shore Commute

Hey, I'm trying to find out how the commute from Glen Head is. Does anyone commute from the North Shore to the city? Is it a long ride? Does that line run okay? Also, how far of a drive is it to Queens? Thanks!

Not sure where Glen Head is, but I've done the commute from my parent's house in Miller Place. 25 minute to Ronkonkoma and then an hour and fifteen minutes on the train. It worked out to be about 2 hours door to door.

Pretty brutal... but I used to sleep on the train.

Glen Head is north shore Nassau. (Sea Cliff area)

I think the easiest commute to Queens would be Northern Blvd (25A), but I have NO idea how long.

sorry!

I think Ronkonkoma is a bit more out there. I hope it is from the sound of that commute.

Yes, it's much much more out there

Sorry, I didn't realize it was in Nassau. Ronkonkoma is smack-dab in the center of LI, about 60 miles out, in Suffolk.

Re: North Shore Commute

I am just looking at a house in Glen Head tomorrow but wanted to find out how the commute would be because the commute is really important to me. Like I don't know if there's different ways to drive to and take another train rather than just getting on at the Glen Head stop to make it shorter.

I just mapquested Glen Head to Forest Hills and it's 18.21 miles. That could take you an hour and a half during the morning though since you're going with traffic.

It's an hour on the train to Penn, though. And, there aren't very many trains.

For all of this stuff, just check out the MTA site.

Thanks. Well it's more my sister who has to drive to Queens, but she would be going around 6 am. I'm not sure what the traffic is like at that time.
