Northport/ East Northport

Could you tell me about the area? DH and I are quite interested in this area as it seems to be in our price range and you seem to be getting 'alot'for your money as opposed to trying to live in Queens/Nassau.

Most importantly is the SD?
Most neighborthoos all have there 'bad' area where would that be in Northport if there is one.

Any information would be helpful!

TIA

They are cute towns with quaint main streets...the school district is excellent. Not sure what the bad pockets are - if any - as I'm in the middle of searching myself.

Supposedly the numberd streets are really 'hot' right now.

I lived in east npt until I was 13 - then moved to npt (fm me if you have any questions)

They are both great towns - with npt - depending where you are, you may have to pay village taxes too.

Excellent school district - and I have seen a bunch of houses for sale lately. Good Luck.

Re: Northport/ East Northport

We bought a house in East Northport this fall and really like it. We had been renting in the Huntington area and are pleased with the new area. We don't have kids yet, but I think the school district is good -- FYI, East Northport falls into 3 different school districts: Elwood, Northport and Commack. I think all of them are pretty good.

All of the school districts are great, and there are really no bad areas surrounding Northport or East Northport. Good luck!

thank you ladies!!! i am sure I will have many more ?'s as the serach progress but we are trying to narrow down the areas we can afford.

any ideas on the approximate travel time from Npt/E Npt to queens? (with normal traffic) our parents live in Queens and well I need to consider all this information

Thanks again! I was worried that it was to good to be true...but again its Suffolk county and homes are usually lower in price and big property as oppposed to Nassua and Queens. Whcih seems to be WAY out of range

I live in queens (hollis hills) and my parents live right by 25a - its about a 40-45 min drive.

i'm from northport. excellent district. you have two parts of east northport...the one in the npt school district or the elwood school district. both are good districts. northport is more expensive than e. npt. however, neither are cheap! the village is beautiful but high in taxes. fort salonga is awesome, tons of property, but most houses are 700k and up. then there is ashroken and eatons neck (wayyyyyyy out of the way for milk and amazing b/c of the water, but also super $$$) however, it really is a beautiful area.

we live in east northport and travel every friday into bay terrace to visit DH's father. on a good day, it can take us 35 minutes or so going 65, on a bad traffic day, I would say plan on 45 min to an hour.

Re: Northport/ East Northport

we have narrowed our search to northport and fort salonga area. although there are many houses on the market right now, we have yet to find the 'one.'

i actaully heard that the numbered streets of e. nthpt are the ones to avoid. this may not be true, just what i have heard.

GOOD LUCK

about the commute...taking 25A can be about an hour, depending on weekday or weekend. depending where you are, getting onto a highway or parkway can be anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. if you are close to pulaski road, you can easily grab sunken meadow to nsp to lie or whichever, but if you are not close, getting on one of those roads will be a hike.

Thats my perception as well. It hasn't been a great area - considerably lower prices than the surrounding area. (which may be why its 'hot') Could be an up and coming area, but...

MOST of Northport/E Northport is fantastic!

We bought a house in NPT almost 2 years ago & we absolutely love it here. The school district is great (well, by our research & word of mouth only- no kids of our own).
The town is really quaint & friendly. Don't know if you saw my post on NWR the other day but I actually had Christmas Carolers come to my door twice in one week!
I don't live right in the Village (taxes too high! ), we live by the LI Sound in Crab Meadow. The home prices are pretty high, my DH did a search the other day & I think he said the median price for a house in NPT is $700?
Anyway, it's a great town.
ETA: cocoa is correct- we are defiently NOT clsoe to the parkways!!! Takes us a good 15-20 minutes to get to the NSP.

HI
i've lived EN my whole life and DH and i just bought an adorable house here too! i teach in the district right in the numbered streets! the #'d streets are fine!!!! there are smaller houses in these areas combined with all sorts of styles of homes. some of the houses on these streets are just so cute. my students live on these blocks. my DH grew up on 5th street. don't know why people would say anything negative about them. FM me if you want ANY other info. on any area. like i said i not only live and teach here but when house hunting we looked in EVERY area here. by the way the Bellecrest area is great too-low taxes and private-though hilly, and again lots of mixed styles and sized houses!
good luck!

i grew up in e npt. my parents, sister and brother still live there. it's a great town (i consider npt and the part of e npt that's in the npt/e npt sd one town). i have no idea why people would say the numbered streets are a bad area. maybe compared to the ritzy village part of town, but please, bad area? i don't think so. people from actual bad areas would kill to live there. good luck!

Re: Northport/ East Northport

DH is from E Npt and I also can't imagine why anyone would think the #'d streets are unsafe, or bad. The houses are just smaller.

Here's an example of one, pretty typical for the area:

#'d street house in E Npt.

here's another:Check out the bathtub in pic 3 or 4!!!

another #'d street house

Oh, I didn't buy it when the realtor told me...I rent in Huntington so I'm aware of the surrounding towns...he was trying to hard-sell us on a $600k+ house in the numbered section.

I would buy that the area is trying to clean up...thus making it 'hot'.

i don't think the numbered streets are bad per say, just that there other 'nicer' areas of east northport. not sure why you would refer to the village as 'ritzy.' IMO, it is a far cry from ritzy. in fact i think the neighborhoods in the village are very quaint w/ modest sized homes.

Re: Northport/ East Northport

Having grown up there my whole life there is not one area of the Npt/Enpt school district that I would call 'bad'. My best friend grew up on 3rd and there was nothing wrong with that area at all. She had more property then I did and I lived in Npt village. If you can afford Npt/Enpt go for it. I wish we could. We wanted to move back there but with DH's commute and mine, being that far from a parkway and the size house we could get for the money compared to here, we gave up , but I would move back there in a heartbeat if things changed!
