Yes the one next to the carvel that back Napper Tandy's.

They said that it had been closed for a year (I thought that it had been closed longer) and that they were selling the property.

Memories go up in smoke as the Northport Skating Rink burns to the ground

Play the video (03/24/04) NORTHPORT - It was a Long Island landmark for almost a century, but the old Northport Skating Rink is now part of the past.
The building on Fort Salonga Road caught fire early Wednesday morning. Eight area fire departments responded to the blaze and one fire fighter suffered minor injuries. About a half hour after firefighters arrived at the scene, the roof had collapsed. What remained of the building has been leveled.

The building, built in 1908, was originally a stable for polo horses. Then in the 1930s it was turned in to a roller rink. Many residents have fond memories of the skating rink that had been abandoned for about a year.

Fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze.

I'm surprised it was still standing after the two fires the lumber yard had.

I loved playing the hoky poky or the number game.

Wow, I didn't know that. I am surprise my mom or best friend didn't call me asap. They are like that when anything new happens in Northport. I lived there as a kid, but no more... Can't afford the price of housing $$$$ I was a big fan of Viva Jaun's over in Huntington, that burnt down over the weekend too. I loved to go Kareoke there on Fri/Sat nights.

That's so sad.

I hate hearing about stuff like that, places that memories were created in going up in smoke. I felt that way when the old Levittown Roller Rink closed, Bayshore Arena, Commack Roller Rink and Nunley's. It was like a piece of my childhood memories were gone. I never heard/knew of that rink or else I would have gone for sure. I still going roller skating in Massapequa on 'adult nights/mondays' although I haven't since I've been pg.

Can't wait to lace back up!!!
