Not a bridesmaid

I have told all my girls who is in the wedding party. FH 2 sisters, I cousin, 2 best friends. Here is the problem: I have a really close friend and she is not in the party. No reason other then we only want 10 people. How do you tell a friend that she is not in the party without hurting her feelings. we are going out to lunch tomorrow and I want to be the person she hears it from. anyone have or had this issue. Thanks, Girls

How about you avoid the bridesmaid topic, and instead, ask her to do a reading??

Honestly, I don't think there is any way to tell someone they are not in the wedding party without hurting their feelings. Since you say she is a 'really close friend', can't you make an exception? I'm sure she would really appreciate it to be a part of your special day.

I kind of have to agree. I know it ***** because we have to put family in, sometimes against our will. If she was an aqquaintance I'd say forget about it, but if she is as close as you make her seem, it is going to hurt her no matter what, especially if your only reason is you only wnat ten people. I would suggest coming up with a better reason even if its not entirely truthful, or be prepared for her to be hurt. I like the suggestion of having her do a reading. You could also make her an honoray BM. She might accept that when she calms down a bit.

I agree! Ask them to do a reading or hand out programs, something special that shows that they are special to you even though they are not a BM.

I had two girls do readings, I really wanted them as BMs but, I had 5 other people I was closer with. I had them do readings.

I wanted a small bridal party and had an idea in my head- SO SILLY- I didn't include someone in my bridal party for those reasons. I never brought it up with her and we are still just as close- but I really wish I would have just included her!

As far as telling her? Why do you have to? once she isn't asked and everyone else is, she will know

The bridesmaid topic is very touchy. I am having a big problem with it because FH has 4 sisters who all have to be in the bridal party...i have 1 sister so thats already 5...then i have 5 friends...so thats 10 girls...its all crazy...our altar is SO teeny tiny so we decided on ONLY family walking down the aisle and at the altar and some of the bridesmaids are just FREAKING OUT mad, while the others are SO supportive and think its a great idea.

its times like this when you realize who your true friends really are!
