not a good wedding planning day...

not a good wedding planning day...

I posted a few days ago that my father likely needed to have shoulder surgery for a second time before our wedding.

Well, today that was pretty much confirmed by a second opinion. He'll have to be in a sling for 6 weeks and do a really, really long rehab.

His surgery options are 7 and 6 weeks before my wedding. I know he'll be out of the sling, but I really want him to be comfortable (not in pain and able to dance and enjoy himself) at my wedding. I'm his only daughter, and I know he's really been looking forward to this day.

I'm so bummed for him... I wish he could have it sooner, but those are his options with the surgeon he wants to use.

Not posting for any other reason than to vent. I feel bad for him.

It's not a good day for wedding planning. My church called and basically proved to me they are incompetent. I requested a particular priest a while back and called to confirm things. His assistant called me back to tell me 'I never knew you requested this priest. No one told me that.' I called this woman PERSONALLY months ago and requested him. The deacon we met with also requested him for us. Long story short, now he can't do it b/c he is out of town that weekend. So we have to find someone else to marry us. I'm fuming -- and we STILL haven't gotten a call back regarding our rehearsal either. If our invites weren't already printed, we'd be having our wedding elsewhere at this point.

The good news is that the calligraphy artist finished our envelopes and they were delivered today - I can see them when I get home tonight. I hope they are beautiful. I could use some good wedding news.

(ETA - Sorry to whine and vent... it's just not a good day. I'm sure it will get better!)

sorry you are having a bad day!! i am glad your dad got the surgeon he wanted, and hopefully this will fix his arm for good!! i saw on BHB that you were having trouble with your parish. if you still have problems with them, and decided you want to go with another church, keep in mind that you can always send a note to all the invitees that the location of the ceremony has changed. if you think it will make a big difference on your wedding day, don't settle!! whatever happens, just remember that FH will be waiting for your at the end of whatever aisle you choose to walk down.

Thanks, but I don't even want to go there. Our ceremony is at 4:30 -- and the only reason we can have it that late is b/c there is no 5pm mass at this particular church. Not many other catholic churches could accomodate us.

Also, this is the parish where I grew up, so it means a lot to me to get married there. I just do NOT understand why they are so freakin' incompetent. I UNDERSTAND they have other stuff going on, but that doesn't mean they should treat parishoners so badly.

BOTH of my brothers had problems there, too. I guess I thought (given the circumstances) their issues were just isolated incidents.

I've done everything I am supposed to. I am nice and polite when I call. I don't hound them with phone calls (yesterday was the first time I'd called this calendar year).

I just don't get it. I'm writing the pastor a VERY long letter detailing my pre-cana and other issues b/c I've had it. Until I got engaged, this was a wonderful, welcoming parish. Now they are insufferable!

Good luck with your dad's surgery. 6-7 weeks is a long time before your wedding. He won't be lifting you in his arms...but he'll be dancing.

Sorry bout your incompetent church. I have come to the realization that my priest has Alzheimers (omg my spelling is terrible). I hope he REMEMBERS to come (he will be a visiting priest). We filled out the paperwork 3 times.
