In the begining I was bothering my fi weekly to go back to li to start planning our wedding , we looked at a BUNCH of halls and booked our date and Hall, a month later we booked our photo and our limo , now I relize I have so much more to do but its over a year away and I can't seem to get , well i DON'T KNOW IF ITS ABOUT BEING EXCITED OR MOTIVATED, I am so glad I found this site even though I easdrop more than I post , but it seems to me the more I read and see so many girls with so many posts that its like you get something done every day, maybe its because im in pa and in order to talk to anyone I have to travel for 2.5 hours each way, did anyone else feel this way in the begining , its like im a bad bride

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
It's very hard when you live far away from where the wedding will be! There have been other posts by out-of-towners, search for them or maybe start a new post to flush them out : ) They will give you encouragement!
You are NOT a bad bride!
Sounds to me like you've accomplished a lot so far!! Lots of us have jobs, even families and really do not do wedding stuff 24/7!
Maybe go to some of the sites where you can listen to clips from DJ's and bands, start to think about what you like and don't like. You and FH can do that online 'together'. Maybe browse some dress shops to see what you like and don't like. Take your time and breathe!
You have more than a year. And some of the details you read about on here are not essentials!

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
I got engaged last april, and didn't book my hall until august. I didn't get into planning until this past December. I had so many other things going on. Don't worry, all of a sudden you will get into it!!!

When I was a year away, I wasn't feeling it either - I am feeling it now though with a little over 2 months to go - its less exciting and more stressful at this point though...

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
I understand what you mean. I'm currenty a medical student in NJ and have not time to plan a wedding and i'll be moving to michigan in two months. When I first got engaged I was excited for a minute and then totally stressed out about how I was gonna plan a wedding from 700 miles away as well as balance being a medical resident in training. i decided to hire a wedding planner and now i'm finally excited about the wedding. I highly recommend hiring someone if you live far away or work crazy hours. It is the best decision I ever made.

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
I feel like after the first round of wedding plans (booking the hall, the band/DJ, and a few other things) there was a lull of doing nothing but thinking alot. Then after two or three months I started back up again. DONT WORRY...BE HAPPY!

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
I felt the same way for awhile. We booked the hall, DJ, and photographer pretty fast, and then had no wedding stuff to do for a while. It was had to get back into the planning again, now that I'm on;y a month away I'm getting excited, but for a while I was so tried of talking about wedding stuff! Not everyone is into planning the wedding 24/7, or has the time for it. You normal, don't worry!

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
If it makes you feel better, I was VERY excited in the beginning... prematurely booked a florist (who I've since changed). Booked my videographer (who I'm still happy with). Booked my hall (which I knew I've wanted forever, so that was easy). Then... (sound of a car braking)... I fell out of planning. Part of it was because we were house hunting - and found our house. We moved in in November. Then it was Christmas time. Once the New Year hit, and my wedding was finally THIS year, I got all excited and 'bride-y' again! (That's when I became addicted to liweddings! That helps, too!). I wouldn't worry. You just know you have time... as it gets closer, the excitement will build.

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
I get that way too! I got engaged in August and had my hall and church by mid September snd had registered (it was around my 30th b-day and I wanted housewares from my families for gifts). In October I booked the photographer, November I found my dress and my florist and haven't done much since! I feel like there's something I should be doing but, since I have the date sensitive things done, I'm in pretty good shape.

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
I live in PA (philadelphia) as well. I just got engaged and the first week I was so excited about researching places. But then our trip back to long island got cancelled so I kind of slowed down the planning process. With a weekend in long island coming up I am getting more excited about getting stuff done. I think everyone will plateau at some point...especially if you have a particularly longer engagement. I think it's healthy not to have the wedding be the main focus of your life. However, i do have an unexplained addiction to this site!!
the excitement and/or motivation will hit you again!

You're not a bad bride. I think everyone gets to a point in planning where we just want it all to be over already, and our day to be here.
As for the girls with lots of posts, it doesn't mean we do something everyday - only that we post a lot!

Re: not as excited as I thought I would be
DH and I got engaged in March and immediately booked our hall, church and registered a bit even though we were not getting married for 19 months. We took a nice long break and started planning 6 months later in September, photographer, dj and my dress. We did nothing for another 6 months. Point I am trying to make is that I was so excited to be a bride and all of that fun stuff, but we still wanted to do things that were not wedding related. So no you are not a bad bride, you are going at your own pace, and that is wonderful. You don't want to rush yourself or throw yourself into everything and then regret a decision that you made. You will be fine!
