but if your make-up person is getting paid $75-$150 a girl (give or take)
why do you tip? You know your covering all the costs she could ever endure for the day, and its all going into her pocket....
Just curious....

I was under the impression that if the person owns the business you don't have to tip them. I wouldn't tip them anything crazy, maybe just a token.

If hair is $100, 20% would be $20, so I guess a token would be like $10?

Re: not being rude or cheap...
My makeup person charged $150 and I'd given a $50 deposit. I only tipped $20 the day of because he was a little high maintenance to work and because he kept running late, everything else ran late and cut into our picture time (and yes, I padded the time and gave him an extra half hour). I think $170 was enough for my makeup though.

Re: not being rude or cheap...
once at a bar/lounge in NYC we had bought a bottle wich is obviously expensive when the guy brought it to us he waited there and then asked for a tip!
I think a 'token' is good enough!

Re: not being rude or cheap...
I know!! I had no idea I should have tipped at my makeup trial and then I totally overtipped at my hair trial (gave her $30 for a $50 trial!)
I think the day of I will give like $30 tips, which is exactly 20% (both hair & makeup are $150).
But if you think about it, 6 people are getting their hair done, plus me so she's making $600 for like 4 hours of work, which is not too shabby!!!

Re: not being rude or cheap...
I tipped at my trials, nothing huge, just a 'token' as some girls put it.
i plan on doing the same on the day of.

Now I think I have to look at my contract..I think the tip may be included in the price. Hope not.
