Not getting Video!!

Not getting Video!!

So I need opinion...Did anyone NOT get video? So my FI and I decided from the begining that we didnt want it and that it was an expense that we didnt need. I am really into pictures and would rather spend the money on that.

Anyway...so when my Mom and I went photo shopping she fell in love with the videos...I told her that if she wanted to pay for it than well get it...but now I am thinking that I would rather just have a family member video the ceremony and call it a day....Sometimes I feel uncomfortable around a video camera and I dont want to feel that way the entire wedding day..

What shoudl I do...does everyone get video...am I going to regret not getting it?

We're not getting video, because we feel like how many times are we really going to watch it after the wedding day?

One brother says I shouldn't get it for that reason, the other brother says I should, and I'll regret it if I don't. My MOH says it's a good thing to have.

Anyone remember that Everybody Loves Raymond episode where he taped over their wedding video with a football game or something like that??

All I can say is that my best friend and MOH just got married. She has said over and over that the one thing she truly regrets... is not getting a video.

I think it's a personal decision, of course, but I would rather get an unedited, raw footage video for 500 bucks than not have those memories just in case.

She says she can't remember a lot and wishes she could go back and see something.

In terms of a family member - if someone really wanted to do it, i'd say that's fine....but i would want them to enjoy themselves just as much.

I'm not getting one. I feel very uneasy around video cameras. I don't need anymore anxiety
A friend has volunteered to tape the ceremony if I want.

we are not having professional video by choice, which works out great considering our tight budget.

we have 2 friends/family members who offered to to tape our ceremony and special points throughout the reception.

See I am afraid this is how I am going to feel...but I am also afraid I am going to regret it also. I guess I may need to think about it some more.

Wear cn you get that? I mean 500 dollar unedited versions... I mean maybe that I wouldnt mind. I mean all of these videos at the videographers seem so elaborate and I dont think I would want that.

My cousin did that and was Very happy to have the ceremony on camera and they taped the announcement of the BP & bride and groom!
ETA it was a family friend, not a relative so they didn't feel jaded about missing thing by being behind the camera! He was honored that he had been asked to participate!

Re: Not getting Video!!

I don't want to pay a lot for video, and I don't want to burden one of my guests with the responsibilty....SO, I was thinking of asking someone at the high school my brother works at...the photo teacher should know some kid who would LOVE to make $100 or more for a couple hours!

I don't care about the professionality of it (is that a word?), I just want to be able to see our ceremony as I probably will be too nervous and won't remember a thing!!!

There have been many threads on this topic and past brides who don't get video almost always regret it...I agree, it captures things (like your first dance - LIVE!) that photos can't.

DjPill used someone he found on craiglist and was very pleased...link to his review! FM him for more details.

Also, check out the Budget Vendors site!

Good luck!

We were not going to get video, but my mom kept telling me that I would regret it, and the more I thought about it, the more I agreed with her. I am really glad we decided to book it, and I think we got a really good deal!

I'm getting video for many reasons. First, photos don't capture everything like videos do. Second, I want to show my kids this one day. Third, the wedding day will go by lightening fast, I'm going to miss so much.

I'm only paying $1,250 for full coverage, editing, bride house coverage, chaptered DVD's, etc. If you shop around, you can get a good deal and quality work. I think you may regret it if you don't get it.

Definitely doing video! My friend got married in October and they still watch their video!!! I've seen it about 3x and loved watching every minute... and it wasn't even MY wedding! I can't imagine not having my wedding on tape.

were not getting it just for that reason my FH and I feel that its just too in your face - its a wonderful thing to have to look back on but not if its going to make you uncomefortable to have it there -

We're getting a video....

As for having any anxiety about being video taped, if you have a good videographer, you won't even realize that you are being taped. They are supposed to be unobtrusive like photographers. You're not even supposed to tell they are there. I would get the video. I think in the long run you may regret not getting one.

Another perspective to think about is your kids (if you're planning on having any!) I know my niece and nephew LOVE to watch the 'mommy and daddy movie'. They think it's hysterical to see what everyone (grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles etc.) looked like 11 years ago!

Not to mention, unfortunately, some of the people at my sister's wedding are no longer with us. It's nice to have those memories on video. Pictures are nice but being able to hear their voices is completely different.

Just something to think about...

Well...you said exactly what my mother said....I think we may be able to compromise by doing something cheaper and unobtrusive.

We aren't getting one. Honestly, it's an expense that we did not need and we know we will not regret it because how often are we really going to watch it? It's up to you. If you are more comfortable w/ having a family member video tape it, then go for it. If from the beginning you knew you did not want it, I don't think you'll have any regrets about it later.
