What does everyone out there think? Since i'm older now (31) the thrill of having a big wedding party has come and gone (just like my twenties)...so what to do? I'm thinking that i'll just have my older sister as my MOH...
but what about all my friends who's weddings i've been in? and what about a shower? Do you think those same friends will reciprocate for me, even though there's no 'bridal party?'
advice, suggestions?

Re: Not having a bridal party?
I say do what is right for you and dont worry about everyone else. It will make your life easier and save you alot of money to have a small BP. Besides all your friends bp's you have been in, since they are married now it might be harder for them ( the cost, bridal shower planning etc) I am sure they will understand and I am sure they will still reciprocrate for your shower.

Re: Not having a bridal party?
Quite honestly, it will save all of my friends a ton of money, b/c they won't have to buy dresses, pay for showers, big gifts, that whole deal, like i did....i just think i'll be disappointed if none of them do anything special, considering...it kind of reminds me of another post that i read about keeping track of who gives you what....no one wants to admit that they do it---but when a friend gets married 5 years ago, and you gave them $50 for their engagement....and 5 years later, it's your turn, and all you get is a card.....isn't that out of whack????

I have no BP, just a MOH and BM. It's the best thing ever! So much less hassle!

I say do whatever you want. I am 33 and am very close with the girls in mine- for me it wasn't an option.
My friend got married & only had her sister and fg & rb.
Anything goes

Re: Not having a bridal party?
if FH didn't have so many guys he wanted to incorporate, i could have seen myself going the single MOH route as well. i am having 3 girls - my sister, his sister and a high school friend. i didn't want to burden the bridal party with $$ so we pretty much are picking up the tab for things. it does get expensive .

It's Your Wedding and you can do anything that makes you happy. I have a small bridal party as well. Less hassle and less worrying. More people in the BP, more to plan and arrange....

Re: Not having a bridal party?
i am not having a traditional bridal party. i am having only my bestest friend in the world as a bridesmaid, and the rest of my BP is family members - my sister, my 5 nieces, and 2 nephews.
the reason why i didn't involve my other friends is that i felt like they were bridal-partied out. so many weddings.. so much $$$!when i told them, i think they were relieved to be spared the huge expense. and i know that when the time comes they will be happy to help out with stuff.
i think you should do it however you feel comfortable!

Re: Not having a bridal party?
I'll be 34 and the last of my friends to eb married. I was only in one of my four friends wedding parties because they each come from a family of sisters.
I am only having my best friend as a MOH and he is having his as BM. So much simpler and cheaper. I didn't want the drama or expense. All of my friends have kids, my MOH lives out of state and my mom is deceased so all of the planning falls to me... my bridal party wouldn't be able to help because of their kids.
We even decided not to have RB or FG's because FH has four nieces and one nephew all live out of state. We would have to pickup the expense for their outfits, gifts and the unpredictability of kids I've only met twice. Nevermind, we are only having 4 adults in the entire wedding! I said no, he agreed... now we just have to tell his family
Do what you want. I swore off being in wedding parties a long time ago.

Re: Not having a bridal party?
Just adding my two cents............I'm 43, I'm not having a bridal party, just my cousin as matron of honor and his brother as best man. I'm really way past the stage where I have to have a big bridal party, maybe when I was younger. Heck, I wanted to go to Vegas and get married, he wants the whole thing

Re: Not having a bridal party?
i'm older too but after thinking it through i decided i needed more than one or two bridesmaids basically to lessen the expense for them - so i ended up with 4 so they could afford to have the shower - i really didnt want to be a burden on one person but that is just my opinion

I second this . . . my sister is my MOH and my FI's best friend is is BM. I just didn't feel the need to ask everyone to be in the bridal party. It depends what feels right to you . . . I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it.
