...not having insurance suc ks! *****UPDATE******

As many of you already know I went to planned parent hood yesterday and got 3mths worth of BC pills...then I have a follow up in June..and the Dr. wants a letter from my cardiologist (I have WPW syndrome- which in a nuthell is a rapid heart beat)...that its ok for me to go on BC. I called the cardiologist office today and they said that he wont write the letter without seeing me first..being that its been 2yrs since Ive seen him. What sux about it is that I dont have any insurance..so they told me the minimum will be $130...and if they decide to do the EKG..then it will go up...but I dont have $$$ like that....so now I dont know what to do..any suggestions??

This is the definition of WPW
In WPW there is an extra electrical connection inside the heart that acts as a short circuit, causing the heart to beat too rapidly and sometimes in an irregular manner

I honestly think if I go on BC I will be fine..but I dont want to take the chance. The Dr. was asking me yesterday when I went to the hospital if its an irregular heart beat or if its something else like too much blood racing to the heart (or something like that)...being that I wasnt able to give her a correct definition of the syndrome she asked for the letter from the cardiologist. Now I know what it is, which is an irregular heart beat...Im pretty sure I'll be fine..but again, I dont want to take the chance.

******************UPDATE***********************

So I went to the cardiologist today and he was nice enough to see me (without insurance)...he did a full exam and EKG for only $130!!!! and he said its fine that I go on BC, so he gave me the letter. He did say that my blood pressure was slightly high and that I should lose 10 lbs and have my blood pressure checked in 3mths (which is fine because the lady at Planned parenthood told me to come back in 3mths for a pap and to check my blood pressure. I am sooo happy ladies!!! and the great thing is that now I got an update on my heart with the EKG (its been 2yrs since Ive since the cardiologist)...

Are you going through all of this just to skip your period or for protection reasons?

ouch! that *****. without knowing anything about your situation, I'd still say you should go for the appt before starting the BC just in case. the chance for side effects is so slim these days that you'll probably be fine, but you might not want to take that risk. good luck!

Yes and No. At first it was just to skip my period for the wedding..which I can still do because I have a 3mth supply..so I can start them next mth or something...but now I also want to remain on then because I dont want to use condoms once we've married.

But you are going on your FH's policy after that from what I remember? If that is the case, I would not play games with the Pill and if your heart doctor is telling you to come in, I would do it and not just assume it's ok. I know it's $$, but then again it's your health and you don't want to mess around with that.

Yea, that was the original plan but I dont know if you remember but FH lost his job back in Jan. so now he has no job or insurance..so we are both screwed...
You're right tho..I know its my health..I mean if worse comes to worse I will take the pills for may and june...skip the sugar pills in June so i wont get my period in July..and then just use condoms...

I don't want to sound mean at all, but you should really really not be messing around with stuff like this, it's importnant to see the doctor. I know it's expensive, but so is a wedding and you're health should be more important than anything else. I wouldn't get the health advice that you need to get from a cardiologist from a message board because people can mean well, but doctors go through 8 million years of training for a reason! Especially if it's an irregular heart beat that you're talking about. That might (I really don't know if this is true) give you a higher tendency towards forming blot clots (I know that atrial fibrulation does, I don't know if WPW does or not), and BC pills can increase your chace of forming a clot. Again, a DOCTOR would know, I'm just explaining why you should go see one, because it could be fine... a doctor needs to be the one to make that decision though
Maybe you could explain your finanacial situation to the doctor and see if they can set up some sort of payment plan or something. If you want health insurance there's a bunch of affordable plans on 'Healthy New York', google it and you can see them. They're sponsored by the state, and some cost 200 bucks a month! Good luck!

definitely go to the Dr. before starting BC..... sometimes you just have to endure a financial pinch for health reasons. the last thing you want to do is get really sick becuase you were trying to save a couple hundred....

I'm in a similar situation with dental bills... I have insurance, but like most plans, it maxes out at $1500 / year.... well, it's only april, and I'm already maxed because of oral surgery, and have already paid an additional 1k out of pocket this month. Now I have a tooth cleaning coming up next week ($125) and will need some follow-up procedures w/ the oral surgery....

With the wedding coming up and a large tax bill, I really am hurting having to pay 1k in dental... but what can I do.... if I didn't, my teeth would suffer

Re: ...not having insurance suc ks!

my FH had an issue with his heart recently, and he has no health insurance either, it was very expensive because he had to have all these different tests.. 1st-dont skip the visit its your heart, a main organ keeping you alive ..2nd let the office know you have no insurance, most dr's charge less becasue of this, they dont get the full amount they submit to the insurance sompaines anyway.. also we worked out that we would make payments, and as long as you give the $10 a month, they can never put you into collections.. so go to the dr. and check it out.. good luck!

I heard that there is a way to make your peiod come early, if your not on the pill, maybe that would be easier. Truly talk to a doc, b4 you do anything.
