...not having insurance suc ks! *****UPDATE******

Original post by bettybcafe

As many of you already know I went to planned parent hood yesterday and got 3mths worth of BC pills...then I have a follow up in June..and the Dr. wants a letter from my cardiologist (I have WPW syndrome- which in a nuthell is a rapid heart beat)...that its ok for me to go on BC. I called the cardiologist office today and they said that he wont write the letter without seeing me first..being that its been 2yrs since Ive seen him. What sux about it is that I dont have any insurance..so they told me the minimum will be $130...and if they decide to do the EKG..then it will go up...but I dont have $$$ like that....so now I dont know what to do..any suggestions??

This is the definition of WPW
In WPW there is an extra electrical connection inside the heart that acts as a short circuit, causing the heart to beat too rapidly and sometimes in an irregular manner

I honestly think if I go on BC I will be fine..but I dont want to take the chance. The Dr. was asking me yesterday when I went to the hospital if its an irregular heart beat or if its something else like too much blood racing to the heart (or something like that)...being that I wasnt able to give her a correct definition of the syndrome she asked for the letter from the cardiologist. Now I know what it is, which is an irregular heart beat...Im pretty sure I'll be fine..but again, I dont want to take the chance.

******************UPDATE***********************

So I went to the cardiologist today and he was nice enough to see me (without insurance)...he did a full exam and EKG for only $130!!!! and he said its fine that I go on BC, so he gave me the letter. He did say that my blood pressure was slightly high and that I should lose 10 lbs and have my blood pressure checked in 3mths (which is fine because the lady at Planned parenthood told me to come back in 3mths for a pap and to check my blood pressure. I am sooo happy ladies!!! and the great thing is that now I got an update on my heart with the EKG (its been 2yrs since Ive since the cardiologist)...

I would look into the healthy ny plan for both of you. Since neither of you have a full time job, you could get benefits pretty inexpensively and if god forbid something does happen at least you do have them cause in the long run it will be cheaper.

As for the birth control, if the doctor is planned parenthood said to get it checked, then i woudl get it checked. You do not want a more serious problem happening.

130.00 dollars for a Cardiologist? Your getting off cheap. Just to be seen at mine is 275.00. I'm familiar with this because I had open heart surgery, and I see him once a year for a Holter Monitor and an annual check-up. You SERIOUSLY need insurance!!!

I suppose. But $130 is not cheap when you dont have $$$...Im sure there are worse places, but still...I wish I had insurance. Also, its just $130 to be seen..then she said EKG and anything else is extra...so I can just imagine how much thats going to be

All I can say....is prepare yourself! It can run you way over 1K. ECG's and EKG's alone are 350 a piece. Some places may be less, then you have to add on your 130 for your visit.

He said I should lose the 10 lbs because my blood pressure was slighty elevated and weight def. has an impact on ur blood pressure

Oh sorry, sort memory Wow hundreds even thousands???

Note to self...staying in the military=never paying a single health bill

Outside=$$$

Now I'm so scared if I do get out and don't have insurance right away
