My FH and I have been living together for a while now, so we have everything a typical couple would register for, therefore we did not register. Basically we just want cash as our gift(s). But our friends and family keep asking us 'where are you registered?' Is there a polite way of saying we want cash, no toasters, towels, etc..?

Re: Not registered - want CASH.
2 options:
Honeymoon registry = cash, but guests feel they gave you 'a tangible gift'
Apparently, items purchased off a Bed, Bath and Beyond registry can be returned for cash, which you get to keep!
Unfortunately, flat out requesting cash can come across as tacky. Plus, most guests will give monetary gifts for weddings, but the above options are for the shower/e-party, etc.

Hmmm touchy subject......are you having a bridal shower???? Fh and I have also been living together about 6 years but we are going to register for new stuff!! We could def. use a lot but if you are having a shower then it may be hard to say No Gifts. I don't know. Sorry....

Re: Not registered - want CASH.
How about a honeymoon registry? Maybe a registry at a realtor? I know some people who have done both ! I don't know if you have a house yet..
asking for cash is not acceptable, however, if you don't register it's possible some people will pick stuff you will hate or give you cash. It's a crap shoot.

I think you should register for a *few* things at least, that way if the registry is sparse, you may get cash. You're going to get gifts from some people whether you register for it or not, some people don't always go off the registry or give cash, but I don't think you should ask for it, IMO. Good luck!

JMO - it could backfire. If you are not registered they may give a gift of their own choosing that you can not return or exchange!
BBB registry sounds like a great compromise!

Re: Not registered - want CASH.
We are not registering either. Our close friends and family know we have everything already (and in double).
We nicelly told them that 'gift cards' were the best since we need to do a lot of home improvements. Unless they wanted to buy the $2500 shed that we want. Suddently, gift cards started to sound great!!!!!!
Or register to a place where you can return everything for Cash (not exchange or credit)

Re: Not registered - want CASH.
I don't really think there's a tactful way to say you just want cash. However, if someone asks where you're registered you can say, 'Well, we decided not to register because we already have so much stuff. What we're really hoping to do is save for a house (or apartment, or whatever).'

'Not registered - want CASH!' I would love to put that on my invitations!!!
You could mention it to members of your immediate family and a few close friends that you want cash. Otherwise, I would make either a honeymoon registry or a BB&B registry for those people who want to give you a tangible gift. (Or hey - return things at BB&B for cash!)

Re: Not registered - want CASH.
my fh and are are going to register at honeyluna. com or other honeymoon registry its a great way to get the cash but indirectly ask for it!!! we have so much already since we bought an apartment already so there are a few things we want to 'upgrade' at BBB and thats it but I agree with the other girls if you don't register then that might be a disaster!

Re: Not registered - want CASH.
Definitely a touchy subject... I tried this for my Engagement party and did not register.. I did get mostly cash presents but I also did get alot of presents. Toasting flutes, vases, glasses etc...
If you are having a shower, people tend to give presents not cash. Try HM regisrty or upgrading stuff you have....
