To this point - my wedding planning has been a nightmare . The first place we signed a contract with closed for business and we're still waiting on getting our deposit back. The second place we were going to sign a contract with, the person we had been working with for months, left and now we're thinking we really can't afford it all.
My fiance' and I would like to find a place that's not so 'weddingy'. Someplace that's not your typical catering hall type thing. We're paying for everything ourselves, so price is a major factor. Our guest list is roughly 80-90 and we're looking for any help we can get!
I've searched and searched on these boards and have called a lot of places you have all recommended and any other ideas would truly help!
We're looking at a date of January 20th, 2008.
Thank you so much!!!!

Re: Not So Normal...
you have the perfect date to negotiate pricing, its not wedding season. have you tried places in NYC? I had my wedding at Tavern on the Green and loved it, we had 70 people and it was just perfect. you can also try the W hotel.
Good Luck!

Doing an internet search now on Atlantis...where is it located?
Water works for us! I'm a Lindenhurst gal (23 years) moved to Jersey and found my price! :)

Just sent an email requesting info from Atlantis! It looks lovely!
Have you signed anything with them yet? How much is it going to run you? (if you don't mind me asking)

They quoted us $100 at Atlantis for November. Not sure how far down they would go. He 'claimed' that thats the lowest they have ever offered. We had previously looked at Flowerfields which was the same price and we mentioned that to him since his original price was closer to $150.
Keep in mind, they only do weddings there in the evenings after it closes. Didn't work for us since we didn't really want a Sat Wed since we'd have to wait until after Sabbath (around 8) to get married and I didn't want the wedding so late on a Sunday.
It was really nice there tho.

What about Chateau La Mer? Or the Riviera? Captain Bills has a beautiful room that is reasonably priced. For that date, you could probably also check these out and get a great price:
Westbury Manor Watermill Cresthollow Country Club Woodbury Country Club Thatched Cottage Timberpoint Country Club Irish Coffee Pub

You could try Chateau Briand. I liked that the cocktail hour room had a nice lounge feel to it. They are reasonably priced.

irish coffee pub is really nice & the food delicious - its great for a smaller wedding - def. give 'em a call! I also know that Brentwood Country Club (again really nice) offers INSANE packages and it's beautiful....my friend is getting married there the end of this month for an incredibly reasonable price...and i'm sure in january its even better!

Re: Not So Normal...
My 'hall' isn't a weddingy place - The Old Field Club. It's a tennis and beach club - built in the 1920's. Built on the water in Setauket. It's only used for their own tennis/beach club events and weddings when they can book them.
They can totally do under 100 people. They have a working fireplace too - perfect for that time of year! You can see pics in my album. FM if you have any questions.
Good luck - this is supposed to be a fun time for yoU! Not an upsetting time
