OK, I wrote to Stan Weist to price a string quartet and meet with either him or the musicians that will be performing at my wedding.
When he wrote back he didn't really answer my questions about meeting with them, if I would be able to have the people I see written on a contract for my wedding, etc. He just sent me a CD in the mail.
So I got the CD two days ago, listened to it and it sounded nice but how do I know these are the people that will be at my wedding? So I wrote again to ask when we could meet with them and I got no response. Then I noticed that the CD says 'PLEASE RETURN CD' on it. It's literally four tracks of like 3 minutes of music each track. I'm thinking 'that's a little rude'... So I let it go.
Then I got a letter in the mail today. 'We have received another inquiry for your date, please let us know if you will be booking' and 'please return the CD right away'. I was shocked!!!!!! I'm like OK, I have had this CD for two days and you have someone else asking about my date which is a year away and on a Sunday? C'mon! And again with the 'return the CD'. Do I have to pay postage to have this CD mailed back-- it was three songs? And what-- I just book with you over email without ever hearing your voice??!!
Is this ODD for a vendor or is it just me? I mean, 700 bucks is a lot of money to just give away over email without knowing or meeting who will be performing LIVE music for hours at my wedding! (Mass, cocktail hour, etc.)
Sorry, long (kinda vent) but I'm so What do you guys think???

I still have my cd for them and dont plan on returning it. If they really want it back they should have included postage.

WOW Nina! You really broke that down perfectly!! That's exactly how I felt and you are so right-- infact, all of you are right. I felt bad before and didn't want to be 'unfair' about anything but now that I see all this I'm realizing that my gut was right to begin with-- there are too many great vendors out there to put up with that nonsense! I mean, live music is a huge part of my day and they are not just playing for twenty minutes so it's important and overall, the business practice he promotes is NOT good!!
Thanks so much ladies-- I'm going to look into others (including Bravura which one fellow girly recommended, TY!!!) and I'll see about others.
Hopefully this will help the rest of you guys!

My SIL is using him for her wedding in 3 weeks, she has spoken with him several times and met with him (once I believe), she raves and raves about him, she says he is the best!! Don't know how his customer service has been with her, but she's the type who wouldn't take crap, so I would think he's been ok with her. Good luck, go with your instincts though I'd say!!

That would totally turn me off. For them first to never answer your questions and then keep askign for the CD back?! Come on now, in bulk CD's barely cost anything. I can't believe they asked for it back! I wouldn't book with them just because of the experience you're having with them.

I also contact them to possibly use them for my ceremony.. and they sent me the cd too. AND I'M KEEPING IT!

I think it is a little strange - I would just try calling them if I were you - if you still dont get an answer - KEEP THE CD - and search for a vendor that makes you feel more comfortable and reliable!

First, I think you should go with your gut feeling, if you have any doubts about it, then DON'T book them. If it were me....I would send the cd back with a small letter saying how u and ur fh were discussing booking them, UNTIL you got the letter. I would say that I found it to be very unprofessional, and maybe they should spring for the $20 it cost to buy blank cd's to make copies on for possible clients.

Sounds a little funny to me maybe you can call them and try to talk to them over the phone and maybe get a better feel for them. Otherwise, I def wouldn't be comfortable with it and I would be a nervous wreck until the wedding.

think I would call him, tell him politely that his company's tactics are both rude and pushy, and that you will NOT be booking with him. Tell him that if he wants the CD back, he can arrange for shipping by sending a SASP to you. Then let him know that you will be letting all of your fellow brides know exactly how you have been treated on both LIW and TheKnot and wherever else you can think of.

Same thing happened here. I wasn't happy as soon as I opened the package and saw the CD with the big red 'please return' sticker across the front of the CD. That turned me off immediately. 3 days later I too received the 'i have receive another inquiry for the same date' letter. And rather than a 'Thank you' at the bottom of the letter I got a (in nice big caps) PLEASE RETURN THE CD. I will not be going with them and I am not returning the CD!

Thank you for bringing it up! I thought I was overreacting when I got the CD with the 'please return' on it. I mean seriously...he charges a decent amount for his services (it's not like he is giving you a bargain and you could understand the need for the CD to be returned to him.) I have been quoted less from others and yet he wants the 30 cent CD back. I don't get it!!!
