Not that I am ready to have children at all, but..........

Not that I am ready to have children at all, but..........

I have had this fear lately of raising an evil child, or a child that goes in the wrong direction in life. I don't know if it's because I work with children and I see the odd things that these kids do, but it just scares me that you can think you're doing everything right and then BOOM, you're kid's making all the wrong choices. Like, how do you end up with the kid who loves to learn in school and says thank you and please and listens to the teacher, and not end up with the kid who could care less about school or anyhting else for that matter. I mean, I know it's all in how you raise them, but how do you know you're doing the right thing? I don't know why I worry about this, but I do, a lot lately, too.

I worry too. I mean, I turned out OK, but after many years of rebelling. And I think my mom did everything right. I just don't know why kids turn, they just do sometimes. My sister is the exact opposite of me. She never rebelled, but she is very lazy and irresponsible. Even in my rebellion phase I took care of business.

I guess the more we hear about bad things, we wonder where their parents were, were these people raised right..... I worry about it too, and we are no where near having kids yet.

It's all about the values instilled in your child from the moment they are born . . . If you have a perfectly healthy child . . .

Of course other things do come into play emotionally/medically, and those are things that you sometimes have no control over, but they are manageable . . .

I don't think you are alone in worrying. I think that is one of the bigest fear for anyone who has or plans to have children, that they raise them to be polite, educated and an all round wonderful person. I think if you didn't worry about that, something would be wrong. But like you, I am a teacher too and I see it everyday, how kids are raised and things I don't want my kids to do when they are growing up, and the good thing, you are a bit ahead of the gang because you see the uglier side of kids and know exactly what to instill and stress in your own childs upbringing. Every parent wants the best and hopes for the best when raising a child. My best advice, is to just love your children unconditionally and make sure they know you love them and how important they are to you and you support their decisions growing up. As long as you love them and are there for them, they will grow up to be a wonderful person.

While I certainly am not ready to even consider having children .. I do admit these thoughts have also crossed my mind. But what troubles me, is when a rotten apple comes from a family whose other kids are wonderful people.

It is so hard to say where kids go wrong when they do .. but it is certainly not always the parents who are at 'fault.'

Because think about it .. how could it be that a family with, say, three kids .. has two who are responsible, polite, caring, thoughtful, smart .. but one child who is pretty much the exact opposite .. lazy with no self-respect, or respect for others??? I've seen this so many times. If the parents made poor decisions, how would 1 of the 3 kids turn out rotten???

As parents, you can seriously only control so much.

I actually think I'm going to get off easy in that dept lol because I was the brat growing up and although I wasn't quite as bad as my god daughter lol everyone says my sister mistakenly gave birth to my daughter lol. A few days ago my sister attempted to buy her sandals at target and she was told by my god daughter that she would rather have Steve maddens lol. My sister of course would like to kill me
