With the way the economy is going, does anyone know what happens if one of your vendors closes? Like your photographer, florist or even (god forbid!) your RH? Do you lose whatever $ you’ve put down as a deposit?
Not something I would normally think about but FMIL brought it up when she was making payments to our RH and got me worried!

For a place like The Swan Club I wouldn't worry.
The best you can do is ask your vendors how long they have been in business, how many clients they have, etc.

I try not to think about negative things...but I must admit that thought has crossed my mind but there is nothing we can do and hopefully none of us will have to cross that bridge!
I must admit its a scary thought

I pray that in good faith if god forbid one of my vendors can't commit to their contract obligations they would let me know right away. I would assume they would give you a deposit back. But from time to time the thought crosses my mind.

The only one I am worried about is my limo company. There arent a lot of reviews about them and I wonder how long they've been around for. Is there a way you can figure that out online?

Look them up on the Better Business Burea website.. put in their phone # and see if they come up. I know usually people go on their for complaints but I think they have history too of how long they have been in business. If not call them and ask..

If you are really worried you might want to think about wedding insurance -- it covers vendors too (like if they don't show up on your wedding day). We are looking into it right now because we are so concerned about bad weather.

You probably don't have anything to worry about but I'd look at the wording in your contracts. If they go out of business, they may have to return your deposits and if so, you can just find someone else. But I'm sure that you're safe because they probably have all of their events booked for the next year or so, which were probably booked before the economy took a turn. It might be the 2010 brides that have to worry.
