Not to offend any of the smokers on this board...

Original post by Kim921

But I need to vent....

It is quite annoying when you are trying to walk down a crowded city street and you have a smoker infront of you blowing his/her smoke in your face!

There's nothing like second hand cigarette smoke to clear those pretty pink lungs I strive to have! AAAAHHHHHH

OK, I am done now...

Ahhhhh a girl after my own heart. I used to hate it when I would go out for lunch and smokers would get in the elevator with me!! Ughhhhh!! It just stunk up the whole elevator and me. And please do not put your smoky coat next to mine on the coat rack either!!!

Sorry I am a reformed smoker and just cannot tolerate the smell. It smells like dirty ashtrays! YUCK!

For those of you who do smoke I respect your right to smoke in an area where the only damage that you are doing is to your own lungs!!! I worked hard to quit and get my lungs clean again, I don't want someone else coming along and messing it up!

My Dh and I are thrilled that they banned smoking in bars, now we can go home and smell like we did when we went in! I don't have a problem with smoking in public places as long as there is a place for them to go separate from non-smokers. (Which I know is rare). I'm also a former smoker... smoked for 8 years, so I'm not trying to be 'high and mighty' or anything, but now that I don't smoke anymore I realize how gross it really is. My eyes used to burn after being in a smoke filled bar, now it's sooo pleasant! I want to drink my beer, not inhale someone's Marlboro!

The worst is when a woman smells like smoke! It is so 'un'femenine! I kinda don't mind it if a man smells a little like good cigarettes and good cologne ! But a woman! eeewww! For some reason I always associate woman who smell like smoke with members of a very old profession, even though obviously that's not the case! I mean my own sister smokes!

I always tell her how that smell takes away from her charm and beauty! But she just rolls her eyes!

lol, what? where does she live that she won't go over a bridge?

It amazes me how people can smoke knowing what it does to your body...

Maybe I am biased because I have seen the damage first hand.

If smokers can not smoke inside, and you do not want them smoking outside, where are they supposed to smoke?

Easy, they shouldn't smoke at all.

The not smoking at all is a good idea, but people do have the right to smoke. I am a smoker (here and there) and I do try to be considerate of others. I do not smoke in anyone elses's house of car (or my own for that matter). If I go outside and smoke I do not stand in fron of the door. But come on, if I am walking down the street having a cigarette and the smoke blows back towards you and it bothers you, please realize this is not on purpose and you can always hang back for a minute or two. I believe most smokers do their part to be considerate, but non-smokers have to be willing to give a little as well.

BTW - There are underground holes - subways - and we are not allowed to smoke there either

GO YANKEES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with all of the non-smokers here....
I actually refuse to drive with my MIL....
She smokes like a chimney and I can't handle it when the smoke fills up the car and even with the windows open, you're still breathing second hand smoke!
EWWWWWW!!!!!!

I hear what all you smokers are saying....about people treating you different....and not having anywhere to go.
But it's not like we are talking about putting all the people that wear purple in a hole together....
This is something that not only harms you, but everyone around you....
To even light-up in public is inconsiderate.

I say this after losing 2 family members to Lung Cancer and not wanting to lose any more.

I know have a strong opinion on this and do not mean to offend. These are JMO's

YEAH Sage!!!!

EXACTLY!

Smokers are putting my life at risk! Second hand smoke is worse than first hand. At least you have a filter, I am sucking it in filter free!!

How's this for considerate?

I was once standing by the curb next to an outdoor ashtray with no one around me except for cars & buses passing behind me. Half way through my cigarette some jerk comes and stands NEXT TO ME and starts yelling at me b/c I am smoking!! Then don't stand there!! And I cannot believe as an adult I said 'I was here first'.

I think the majority of smokers do their best to be considerate of non-smokers but when you are so limited to where you are allowed to smoke it's a little hard!

I agree.

walking down a crowded street, its hard to move last thing I want is to be burned by a cigarette. Crowded street, have ash flown into my eye, then walk into someone or something because I cant see.

I understand its cold, but please dont block the doorway. I want to get to my office without a trail of smoke.

hey you wanna smoke go right ahead, but please dont bring my health down with yours

I know!!

And if smoking were not harmful to MY health, I could care less....I could deal with the fact that it smells bad, turns teeth yellow and brown, increases signs of aging on skin etc...

BUT THE FACT IS THAT SMOKING KILLS PEOPLE.....and those people include me!!!!

Liz i couldnt agree with you more!

Non Smokers you already have won the fight. You have your smoke free buildings, bars, resturants, subways and pretty much everywhere else.. Hell I cant even go to a giants or jets game and smoke in the 4K season seats! and thats OUTSIDE!!!

If there is a couple of people who are inconciderate that is not the majority....

As long as cigarettes are legal people will smoke them.. even if you dont like it..

I for one HATE HATE HATE cigar smoke i think its discusting.. I also think chewing tabacco is NASTY but they have their rights to do it just as I have my right to smoke..

Re: Not to offend any of the smokers on this board...

Yeah this one might get me yelled at but I have to say it...we don't let people drive drunk because it affects your senses and you can wind up killing people. But we let people smoke around others even though second hand smoke can cause lung cancer over time? I don't understand it. I understand it's your choice to smoke, but why should your choice affect my health? If there was a way of smoking not harming anyone but the person who's smoking, then I'd be ok with it. BUt that's not the case and I don't understand why I have to suffer because someone else has an addiction.

I for one hate the smell. I am so glad they passed the ban on smoking in bars. I hated waking up the next day, being hungover and stinking of smoke. Plus I would cough all the next day and my throat would burn.
