Don't get me wrong I would love to, but my photographers don't offer videos and I was quoted a very high price from another Videographer that unfortunatly won't fit in my budget

Re: Not using a Videographer?
We're not using one because we know that we'd watch it like...once or twice. For us, it's not worth the money. However, if it's something you and your FH have your heart set on, get more quotes by all means! And see if your photog can refer you to someone - you might get a good rate through a referral.

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I wasn't going to and my dad guilted me into it last weekend.
I found someone with a very reasonable rate who can put together a short dvd for us from the day. I'm meeting with him tomorrow... we'll see how it goes.

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I had a tough time with this one too and eventually decided not to go with one either. I can totally understand why people want one, but it just wasn't a priority for me and FH. Actually 3 of the last 4 weddings I have been to did not have videographers so you're not alone... and one of the one's w/out a videographer was by far the nicest wedding i've ever been to. It was on the top floor of a skyscraper in Boston!
I am having a friend video the exchanging of vows though just so i have it :)

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I sort of got guilted into it. Our photographer doesn't do, but we considered Halo and Couped Up, and went with Couped Up

I'm not using one. I wanted one at first but FH said that we would probably watch it once or twice, and he's totally right because I know I wouldn't sit down and watch it all the time. Plus we know that a few family members will be video taping anyway. You can always check out a videographer from elsewhere- it doesn't have to be with your photography package. Everywhere I looked though was a bit pricey.

To keep expenses down, Donna and Josh have a family member videotaping, but ya know, I think I'll get Donna's camcorder, and have plan B in place!!! Mary MOB

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I wasn't going to do one at all. Then I was just going to have the ceremony taped and then the photog threw it in for us! Yay!
After making the decision to go with it, I am very happy about it. I was telling two of my girlfriends how we were unsure about it and they both said that even though they don't watch it with their husbands, their children LOVE to watch the videos. One of my friend's kids actually begs to see it. I got all misty-eyed when I heard that and thought FH and I need to have it to show to our kids.
If it's not in the budget, see if a family member can video it for you.

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I was so sure that I didn't want one, until a coworker told me that her only regret was not having a videographer. We ended up booking one. If it's price keeping you from getting one, shop around; you might regret it later. If it has nothing to do with budget and you're really just not into having it, then follow your intuition!

You can probably find one for cheap..I saw one in a magazine that had a photo & video package for $1,995. I think they had their prices online.

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I would recommend it - if you can somehow fit it into your budget. I wasn't going to do it for mine, but when I did I was glad.
1. because I was doing photos during the CH it was the only way I could see what was happening and gage how the party was going.
2. sometimes you are so busy making sure you greet everyone, fit in all the right dances, and with photos that you can't always participate.
3. my daughter likes to watch the dancing.
4. if a picture is worth a thousand words then what is video worth?

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I wasn't going to do one at first, but the girls on here convinced me to look into it. FH doesn't see the point, so we are looking at basic videographers under $1000. I probably won't view it that often, but since a lot of our family members aren't in the US, it will be great to send them a copy. Plus, our grandparents are old and may not be around much longer. Also, we are seeing each other before the ceremony and I really want to watch the reveal and see our expressions. I just know there will be aspects of the wedding that we will miss or not remember and having a permanent record will mean a lot to me.
If the only reason you are not doing video is cost, definitely check around. We are not getting video from our photog, but are definitely getting a package with multiple DVDs under $1000.

Re: Not using a Videographer?
FH and I decided against getting a videographer. We would rather get an awesome photographer and put the money there. We feel like we will look at the pictures for the rest of our life while we will probably only watch the video once ot twice.

JMO...there was no way that we were not getting a video...you may not watch it now- but 20 or even 5 years down the line it will be nice to relive your wedding day...and you can show your children what it was like...

Re: Not using a Videographer?
Nope...we have 2 photographers who will take a million photos. I don't think anyone will want to watch it really, so for the cost, it doesn't make sense. We enough essential stuff to pay for. We consider this an 'extra', as in if we had extra money, we would do it.

I am in a similar situation and if I can´t find something reasonable I´m thinking of looking on craigslist or local schools to try to find a student/someone just atarting out to just take raw footage. I figure I can always edit it down the line when I have a little more money or do it sooner if I find reasonable rates.

Re: Not using a Videographer?
I think it really depends on what you want.. I was considering not.. to keep expenses down.. but my mom & dad thought I was crazy.... only because esp my dad loves video & feels its great for our kids to watch later in life etc etc..
There are some least expensive ones the girls have used on here... such as Halo... who is $995.00 for a full 8 hrs.. and has some packages for alot less

Re: Not using a Videographer?
No, I am not doing one. I do not think it is something that I would watch more than a couple of times. I know one of my family members will most likely be there with a video camera, and that is good enough for me.
I would much rather spend the money on photographs.
This is just my opinion...I am totally not knocking the people who find video important.
