no - from what i understand - you can't....

notaries are usually pharmacists or you can go to a bank and there are people there usually...

As long as you are a registered notary, then yes.

Yes, you just can't do stuff for yourself

you should be able to if you are registered

But I'm not a notary, so I'm not 100 percent positive.

I AM a registered notary.

My question is whether or not I can notarize for a family member? I have no benefit from this transaction.

Yes you can notarize his signature, you just can't notarize your own.

Speaking as someone who is a notary public.. yes you can as long as you're not benefiting from what you are notarizing.

Also you CANNOT notarize something for yourself.

Re: Notary Question!!! HELP!!!! QUICK!!!

If you're not benefitting from it you could probably notarize it, but it's a fine line, so I'd say don't do it.

My brother and I are both lawyers and notaries at the same firm. A few times I did an affidavit of mailing with my name saying I mailed the document on such and such a date, and needed it notarized. Rather than having my brother notarize it, we had someone else do it, because we didn't want it to be raised as a possible issue. He probably could've signed it, but we'd rather be safe than sorry.

As some people mentioned, if you don't have the same last name, you'd probably be ok notarizing it - because people are less likely to realize you're related when glancing at the document and seeing 2 different names.

The whole 'benefit from it' thing is such a fine line because often things can really be stretched out to say there is a way that you can possibly benefit from this thing somehow.

So I'd recommend not notarizing it and just getting someone else to do it!
