Now I have a new problem...

You all know that I think I had food poisoning this weekend. Well, I'm still not feeling well at all. Anyway, since last night my milk won't come in for Caiden when he eats? It has never done this before when he eats himself? I drank as much fluids as I could when I was sick. I only ate scrambled eggs yesterday. That's all I could tolerate. What should I do??? Why is it doing this? Also, TMI, but the right side of my right breast is killing me? What's going on? Nothing seems to be going right! I'm going to have to try a formula bottle, which I know he's not going to like. Will the milk come back if I eat and drink a lot today? HELP!!!

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Try to drink more fluids today if you can.
I'm sure you can get your supply back. You won't lose it in a day or two. If you can't breastfeed, pump it to build up your supply again.

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Could you have a clogged duct? Did you try the other side?

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Try warm compresses. Do you have a lactation consultant? Also, I used the herb(?) Feenugreek (sp?) Increases milk production. Remain calm . . . GL!!!

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Does your breast feel warm and swollen on the side that is sore? If so, it could be a plugged duct or possibly mastitis! I've had mastitis 4 times in 6 months so I know how awful it can be. It generally happened when I neglected to nurse on one side.

Definitely call your doctor (or the baby's). If it is an infection, you need antibiotics.

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Could you tell me the symptoms of Mastitus? I'm going to be calling the doctor first thing in the morning. Right now the whole right side of my right breast hurts so bad I don't even want to touch it! It's not red or anything. I also have a fever, etc. Is it ok to breastfeed still? Thanks!

Re: Now I have a new problem...

I had mastitis with Jordan, it was soooo painful, it felt like there were rocks in my breast I had a fever and chills, kinda flu like feeling - my Dr. had to put me on antibiotics - I was told make sure I kept nursing even though it was REALLY painful and to take warm showers to relieve the pain - as soon as you get on antibiotics, you will feel much better. I know it's really painful to nurse, but you should keep on doing it, I remember when my Dr. told me that I just starting crying.

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Melissa- how are you?
Do NOT stop breastfeeding!! That will make it much worse. Call the doctor asap- your GYN can help you. You can pump that side if that is a bit easier for you.

That sounds like it could be mastitus! I always got a fever. One side of my breast would be as hard as a rock and warm to the touch. It was so painful! It also felt like someone was sticking pins into my nipple. One of the openings in my nipple would also swell to like the size of a small pea.

Continue breast feeding on that side. It'll help relieve the pressure. And please, please call your doctor!

Re: Now I have a new problem...

I'm actually feeling A LOT better!!! I went to the doctor yesterday but haven't been able to get the prescription yet. I have a clogged milk duct with a touch of Mastitus which was causing the fever. Well today I hardly have any pain in my breast, but I do feel the clogged duct, and I don't have a fever anymore. Should I still get the prescription, or let it go away on it's own? It seems to be going away? I really don't want to take the prescription they gave me. It's for 10 days, 4 times a day!!! I've never had to take anything so much! Then because of that prescription, it might cause a yeast infection so they gave me a prescription for that just in case as well. Man, if it isn't one thing it's another! What do you think? Thanks for asking about me!

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Take the meds!! Don't take a chance on this gettting worse Melissa.
For the plugged duct- apply heat (like a hot wash cloth) on that area of the breast and pump!!!!! Massage the plugged area. You will actually feel it unclog. I have had 2 of them, but it was from not empting the breast more completely.

Re: Now I have a new problem...

Yes, I agree with Michele. You should take the meds because it could come back. And be sure to take the entire dose of antibiotics. I generally started to feel better after the first day.

Feel better!!!
