...my cell phone number, in case he needs to locate something while I am gone and he can't find it. I am going on VACATION and I never really go anywhere (a day or two here or there spread through the year). I am actually going to Las Vegas, AWAY, to another time zone and he wants my cell phone number just in case?
If he would just look at our department contact sheet, he would see it there.
I can't believe this!!

Re: Now my boss wants...
That's one thing I refuse to do. If wants me to be available to him then he can't charge me vacation days.

I should also tell him that if he wants to call me, he will have to pay my roaming charges.

Re: Now my boss wants...
My boss at my old job wanted our cell #'s for that reason (and in case she needed us during our lunch break). She was a real b--ch and I absolutely refused. Some of my co-workers lied and said they didn't have cells, I said 'just like our business phone is not for personal use, my personal cell is not for business use! and until we're paid for our lunch hour, I'm unavailable for one hour a day!!' I only lasted 6 months there. Jeeezz.....it's not like we're running the country or anything, how do these boss' function??

Re: Now my boss wants...
Our boss is the CEO, and she is very demanding...one time she had to get in touch with our immediate supervisor and she called all our cell phones and our homes phones! After that, when she couldn't be reached, my parents got a call at their house looking for me...to get in touch with the supervisor. (HR still had my old number on file) All this to see if something had been faxed. It wasn't important in the least. It totally could've waited until the morning.

Re: Now my boss wants...
you should give him the number but
'OOOPPPSSSS I forgot my phone'
or the 2 classic line
'I must have been out of range or didnt get the call '
ENJOY YOUR VACATION

The worst thing is that FH doesn't think this is a bad thing. He thinks I am overreacting and I should just give him the number and if he calls, oh well.

Re: Now my boss wants...
of course he is getting away from his job
what the point of going on vacation if you have to worry if they are going to call
Everyone needs a break once in awhile

Re: Now my boss wants...
give em the wrong number or just ignore the calls--that's what voicemail and caller ID are for! LOL
ETS: not sure what you do, but if something is wrong, can you do anything about it, except get aggravated in vegas?

Re: Now my boss wants...
FH expects that his boss will call and he is okay with it. I don't like it. I don't call my boss during his vacation, why should he call me

Re: Now my boss wants...
In my job...I am always on-call, like it or not. Everyone and their mother has my cell phone number. Sometimes....FH gets really annoyed...but hey, I pay the mortgage!!!
DH is on call...but they will get him a cell phone...or he expenses the one he has...
the worst is that he doesn't get coverage in our place...so they have our home phone...but they do feel bad when they call...they are really nice about it...and since he is a 24-7 guy I understand...but they do PAY for it!!

Re: Now my boss wants...
If my job was a 24-7 type and the company paid for my phone, I wouldn't mind.
I need to let my boss know that there is a 3 hour time difference. He CANNOT call me at 9AM NY time, because it will be 6AM in LV

Re: Now my boss wants...
um if he does call you when you get the phone bil highlight the call and charge and ask for reimbursment, your personal cell phone should not even be posted unless your company is willing to reimburse you for the calls.
I take it you work for a smallish company they are great for really blurring the lines when it comes to this stuff - if you are contacted by work during your vacation it is no longer considered a vaction day -
I get calls / have to make calls on my cell phone all the time.
