Now that you are engaged, how do you split holidays?

Where do you go for the holidays? His family? Yours? Both? This is definitely a hard one... wondering what you girls do???

No clue how we will do Christmas, but I dread it. For Thanksgiving, last year we both ate with our own families and he came for dessert. This year we will eat with our own families again and I will go there for dessert. This is going to be the only thing so far I dread about being married!

He's Muslim, I'm Christian.

His family lives here, mine live in Florida.

Those differences along make it a bit easier for us. Thanksgiving is really the only one that everyone celebrates. However, with Christmas not far behing Thanksgiving, it's easy to do Thanksgiving here and Christmas with my family in FL. Though this year we're doing Thanksgiving alone (his parents are in Saudi Arabia right now) and Christmas here in NY with some of my cousins. But this year is the exception to the rule since we're saving for the wedding

We mostly spend it with my side since his family lives in Missouri and rarely comes home.

Yeah I'm actually really dreading this since I have such a close-knit Italian family and I'm the first 'grandchild' to get married. I think we're holding off on splitting the holidays until we're actually married - so this year for both Thanksgiving and Christmas we're staying with our respective families and then whoever finishes first will join the other for dessert... which usually means he joins me since our holidays tend to never end!!

christmas - christmas eve with my fam..christmas day with with his

thanksgiving - rotating years

easter- play it by ear- --not a huge celebration for either family

oh boy FMIL was just complaining about this she claims FH spends too much time with my side of the family. i dont see how.

thanksgiving- we go to my aunts

christmas eve- we go to my grandmother's for dinner. then we go to his dad's family for dessert (his parents are divorced)

christmas- we go to his grandmother's on his mom's side of the family

easter- not a big celebration in our family so if his grandmother is having something then i guess go there.

this is the only reason I hate the holidays because his mom is so needy sometimes and we have to travel to CT. This year no if ands or butts Im going to m Aunts and for Xmas I am off from that tuesday till the first Monday of Jan so Im going up Tuesday spending Xmas eve at his parents and then coming home. New Years eve we do whatever but this year we have Teri's wedding on the 2nd so Im not going to CT at all on vacation

we've been close enough to spend the holidays together for years, so we usually spend the 'main' day with my family and then go up to his house (upstate) afterwards. so we're spending thanksgiving with my family and then going up on saturday. with christmas it's even easier because his family doesn't celebrate christmas (we're both jewish, but my family celebrates christmas anyway...tree, presents, stockings and all). so i guess i got lucky that it's easy.

does FH have a big family? Mine doesnt so I dont see the purpose even though I like my FIL's to be there if they dont do anything. I have the bigger family so we do more during the holidays. And on numerous times my mom has invited his parents for the holidays and everytime they say no.

FH has a small family, and my family LOVES him so he usually comes to my house.

This year we invited his parents for Thanksgiving!!

His family lives in CT...so what we've been doing (and plan to continue to do) is -

Thanksgiving - alternate each year
Christmas Eve with my family (that's when we celebrate with our extended family), stay over my parents, have bfast on Christmas Day then drive to his family.

Easter we've actually been away the past couple 2 years.

Ditto, which is even harder since my parents are separated, so we go to all three places. I usually start at my mom's since I help cook, FH at his parents, FH comes to my mom's for a bit, drive to my dad's for a bit, then usually end of meal/dessert at FH's parent's since they usually start late. Holidays are hectic!

FH has been in texas for the 5 days or so of and around xmas/xmas eve. this year for other reasons he and his fam are not going... xmas eve is huge for us and since they never did anything speical i told him we will always spend it with my fam. other than that we are screwed,,,
we are having both parents, his bro and possibly his aunt and uncle for xmas day to make it easy!

Thanksgiving - FH will eat with his parents since FBIL & FSIL will be with her family but then he will come to my house for dessert

Christmas Eve - With FH's family
Christmas Day - With my family
New Years Eve - With my family
New Years Day - Wit FH's family (its also FFIL B-Day)

After we're married, I plan on doing Thanksgiving so we are all together

Re: Now that you are engaged, how do you split holidays?

this is the worst part we both LOVE our families and want to spend every holiday with them. So we do his family one year and mine the next. So last year we did Thanksgiving with his family this year we will do it with mine. Last year we did Xmas eve with mine family and xmas day with his and this year it will be the other way around and last year we did my family for easter so this year we'll go to his.

So far it is working for us!!
