ok ladies i dont know if you saw my last post but i fell in love with a dress by alvina valenta , i think its def the one ... my step mom who is buying me my dress lives in new jersey and we went shopping yesterday and fell in love with this store by our house in NJ that does not carry Alvina dresses. I just called her and told her that i would really like to give her the business and she took down the style number called her friend whose dresses she carries, designer Gail Garrison and Gail just called her back and said she would custom make that dress for me for the same price! wow a lot of options now!

Custom all the way . . .
and on another note, can you ask your fiance what he's planning to do with his Shockey jersey, because mine is just sitting in the drawer. Who to replace it with??? I'm thinking Justin Tuck . . . . LOL

Re: NOW WHAT DO I DO ???
There are some things to worry about with custom dresses- just beware!!! I'm getting one done too, and am pretty excited about it. However, I had a few almost MAJOR pitfalls finding someone to do it. From a previous poster, I assume Gail is reputable, so it looks like you're fine.
I went to a salon in Philadelphia, and was looking everywhere for a particular Jim Hjelm dress. I think it started at around $3600 (before alterations), which is CRAZY out of my range. A woman said she would make the same dress for $900. I was over the moon!!! As I was about to spike the ball and do a touchdown dance, rational thinking came over me, and I thought to ask, 'Will it look exactly the same?' YES!!! they said. Then I asked 'Can I see some examples of custom dresses you have made before?'
She turns around, showing me a wall full of custom prom dresses she has made.
I think this woman is the chief designer of the 'Ghetto Prom' website. I mean, like Beyonce's mom Tina's outfits pre-Beyonce being the FAB Beyonce she is today. Remember early Destiny's Child? But worse.
I left skidmarks on the floor as I ran for the door.
If she's reputable, you're totally fine. However, ask to see examples. Good luck- it sounds awesome! I'm glad I decided to do custom, partly because it will take a feat of God to reign in my boobs. Just wanted to pass on my story. I hope it works out GREAT!!!

Re: NOW WHAT DO I DO ???
I think it depends. Is that the exact dress you want or if you had it custom made would you alter it and change things on it slightly? I think the ability to have a custom dress is unbelievable, but if your heart is set on that particular dress exactly how it is, then forget having to go to that salon and find someone who carries it. Its your wedding day and your dress. She can go to that salon for her dress.

Re: NOW WHAT DO I DO ???
Honestly, I would go with the dress you love. It's not like you want to change the style, you love the AV dress..so why would you take the chance? I just see it as ...it's a totally different designer. Yes, someone can custom make it to 'look' like the real AV dress, but it seems like there is nothing much on the dress you want to change so why chance it. I understand liking the customer service in the store, but I dont know if i'd have them design the dress that I love just b/c they cannot order it. Guess I'm the outcast of the group but I say go with the dress you fell in love with!

Me personally? I would stick with the designer. Custom can be nice but also a risky thing.

Re: NOW WHAT DO I DO ???
I think custom would be amazing....BUT I still think you should try Wedding Salon and see what they'll do price wise. You could get it shipped to your house in Jersey and not pay tax. Maybe if you went with the Alvina dress you could get it altered at the Bridal Shop you love??
