Re: NTW: Mental Health Counselors

I went to LIU for School counseling....the program mirrored MANY of the same courses for mental health. A lot of the people were going for dual certification. I knew I only wanted to be a guidance counselor so I didn't do this but it was only the difference of a few courses and one more internship at a mental health agency. They told be from the start if I wanted a job I would most likely have to look off the island. From what I heard they told a lot of the mental health students that they would have a hard time too, although it was still a little more flexible. Anyway now I am living in Florida and I'm a 6th grade guidance counselor and LOVING it so it was worth the risk. If you have any questions about LIU and their counseling programs in general just FM me!

I am a certified school counselor but many of the classes are the same. I went to Mercy College and for the Mental Health degree you only need to take 3 more classes. Let me know if you have any other questions.
