numbering RSVPs

is numbering RSVPs that important?

I ask because the person who is doing my invitatioins can put everything together for me - but does not number (too easy to get mixed up) or i will have to number the rsvps and seal my envelopements

i did it, but I ended up not having to refer to the numbers at all. Its only good if people forget to put in their names or you can't read their handwriting .

YES! I thought it wasnt but I did it anyway and when you have 10 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' RSVP's with no return address, you cant tell which is which, you know?

YES! I received 4 RSVP's so far with NO NAME on them but a 'will attend' check...had I not numbered them I would be clueless! And yes, my guests are clearly not that bright.

I never heard of this--but of course why would I but where do you put the number on the back of hte rsvp & then the same number on your list.
TIA

Yes, yes, yes.

For example we have 7 sets of Mr. and Mrs. H in my family... all male cousins and their wives.

Write it lightly in pencil on the back in one of the corners.

Re: numbering RSVPs

we put the numbers under the stamp on the front in dark ink --you can see the the number through the inside of the envelope --it is very important --we had people just send the card back without names or anything!!!!!

that is such a great idea under the stamp--never would have thought of that.

I intended to do this but forgot as I was halfway through soo didn't...think it is a good idea!

Re: numbering RSVPs

I did this for the simple fact that either they forgot to write their full names or you can't read the handwriting. So far so good! It is a good tip though.

Definitely worth the time to do this..... we had about 15 cards come back with out names.

Wow, I never thought to do that but it def sounds like a worthwhile idea. Some people are just lazy and don't follow instructions to fill out a card!

Re: numbering RSVPs

That's so funny that you mention this today .. I picked up my invites last night and the woman who sold them to me told me about numbering. It took me a couple of times to get the concept since I'd never heard of this before (I think she thought I was a little dim )

What a great idea though - I am definitely going to do this!

Of course it's up to you. We haven't gotten anyone yet that left their name blank, but what did happen was one of my uncles has a son with the same name and we never would've known which one was RSVPing unless we went back to our numbered list so it helped.

I did it on mine. Glad that I did. It makes things much easier and in case you cannot read the handwriting, that's a double way for you to make sure who sent it.

Re: numbering RSVPs

I didnt but so far I have been lucky with everyone writing their names. There are no duplicate names in my family, so I didnt think it would be necessary. If you have pple with the same last name, its probably worthwhile

I think what people do is assign each couple/person they're inviting a number and then they write that number somewhere on the RSVP card. So, if you get back an RSVP that isn't legible or is blank where the names are supposed to go, you can figure out who it's from.

I'm actually thinking about being super sneaky and writing my numbers in invisible ink so I don't have to worry about trying to get the stamp off the card. Plus, I want to feel like an 8 year old again with my little 'decoder' light
