One of my friend's has owed me $1,000 for about 8 years! I've never made a big fuss about it b/c I knew he wasnt doing well financially. But as of late, I know he is doing better. Well, he just posted on facebook that he is on his way to Miami for vacation. I know I havent asked him outright for the money...but shouldnt you pay your debts before you are off on vacations??? I am really pissed. I cant take a vacation this year b/c I am saving for the wedding. And he's off to Miami and god knows where else. Do I have a right to be mad???

Re: NWR
umm... yeah you do!
I would somehow mention that he still owes you the $ and it wasn't something you needed to mention but since you are saving all this $ for the wedding you do need it back. It's a perfect time to ask.
Be careful though cuz $ makes people act weird.

I just commented on his page...must be nice. He'll know I am mad. I havent asked for the money...but I did mention a month or so ago that his gift at my wedding better be no less than $1,000. I am so annoyed right now.

Re: NWR
yeah you def have a right to be mad, but i feel like its been so long since he borrowed it that he could easily be like 'oh, i already paid you back, you forgot?'

Re: NWR
8 years is a LONG time to go and especially NOT to say anything that he still owes you it.
i guarantee it's a forgotten thing on his part...you never asked about it so he wasn't going to just offer it.

Re: NWR
I think 8yrs is a very long time and it has probably slipped his mind....I'm sure I owe someone money from that long ago and have no idea. When he returns, I would definitely bring this up to him though.

I mentioned it when I got engaged in Aug...told him he better at the very least cover it in his gift. I dont know if he thought I was kidding...but I wasnt!

Uh ...hello YES!!! You have every right to be mad!! I am mad for ya
When he comes back....you should have a talk to him and tell him that now that he is a bit more stable that you would really like him to start paying you back. That you really need the money for the wedding.

i agree. i would be clear. you know sometimes ppl dont really get hints. i think on something like this you shoudl be clear.
also with wedding planning, i think adriana is right. now is a great time to ask.
forget the gift....you need it now!!!

Re: NWR
yeah i would be mad too..
i think you should talk to him and say you really need to get that money back. maybe you can work something out with him so he gives you payments( like 100 bucks a month or something) if he doesnt think he can give you the 1,000 dollars at once (even though thats probably not the case since hes taking vacations)...payments might just seem less overwhelming for him
good luck!

Re: NWR
Thanks, everyone. Venting makes me feel better.
But I'll be honest, I would be shocked if he forgot. This is what makes me so mad. You dont forget you owe someone $1,000. $20,,,yes...but not $1,000. And he's so self-absorbed that he just does what is best for him!
