NWR Accutane

Has anyone ever taken this medicine? I occasionally get those painful cystic pimples and I'm wondering if its right for me, but I'm concerned with the side effects (dry face, birth defects). Any experience would be helpful.

TIA

NWR Accutane

My brother took it years ago. I'm talking 15 years ago. It did work but he had to stop taking it though because it was causing him to become depressed.

NWR Accutane

FM Roandjoe on the 2014 boards.. if i remember correctly she said she works for a dermatologist!!! She'll probably be your best bet. I've heard A LOT of bad things about accutane like all the side effects and stuff so I'd veto it.

But I say talk to RoandJoe and see what she says!

NWR Accutane

I've never taken Accutane -- my mom refused to let me go on it as a teenager because of all the links to depression -- but I was on serveral different medications throughout my teen years because I had horrible skin.

If you haven't already, I would make an appointment with a dermatologist to talk through some options. There are antibiotics and antiinflammatories you can go on. I was on a few for a while and it did wonders for my skin.

NWR Accutane

One of my best friends used it and it worked wonders for her skin but I've heard that there are horrific side effects to it... she didn't experience any problems with it though. Definitely talk to your dermatologist if you like your doctor, I can recommend a great one if you're looking for a new one.

NWR Accutane

I am actually on accutane right now. I have one more month left to go and I am so happy with the results. I have suffered from acne since junior high school and I have tried everything the dermatologist gave me. Nothing worked until Accutane. There are side effects and the only one that I have experienced is dry skin. If you want more info just message me! I highly recommend it!

NWR Accutane

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my best friend took it in college and now cannot get pregnant- her doctor told her accutane affects more than the sebum in the skin!!!!

when she was on it her lips would bleed, she couldn't get her eye brows waxed, her skin was so sensitive...and now 5 years after being off she cannot get pregnant. I have 3 other friends with the same issues as well as have heard from others experiences that have taken accutane and cannot get pregnant.

I wouldn't do it. I still get acne and just deal with it. I would rather have a few painful pimples every so often rather than do that!!!

again- try different options, Clinique is great and i use that often! :)

NWR Accutane

Hey! I'm a nurse and from a medical standpoint, accutane is not for the occasional cystic pimple. It's for chronic, cystic acne.
For those big pimples, use a benzyl peroxide treatment.

If a few days before the wedding you have one, (you'll have professional make up to cover it up) but also, you can have your dermatologist inject the pimple with cortisone to shrink it.

I think in your case, the side effects of the medication greatly outweigh the pros.

Hope this helps!

NWR Accutane

I agree with jdellorso!! Your skin becomes extremely dry and sensitive once you're on accutane. If you get an occasional cystic pimple, find a derm and get cortisone injections, they work over night! Like someone else said no waxing, threading, etc. Your skin usually gets way worse before it gets better. The nasty side effects most people talk about such as depression are not always true. We have tons of patients on it with amazing results, but these are people who have chronic moderate to severe acne.
Also, it's a really regulated drug. It requires monthly blood work and a pregnancy test. You have to commit to two forms of birth control as well. The choice is obviously totally up to you! It won't do much harm, but you may regret it once you start getting the typical flare that comes with being on accutane. Then again, it's something that you can come off of whenever you want! FM me if you want more info!
Maybe try a short term antibiotic like doxycycline for a few weeks before your wedding!
Thanks btw katielynn by the shout out =p

NWR Accutane

I never took accutane but my sister did about 8 years ago, if not more. She had severe cystic acne and after trying several options this was what she was left with. She had very good results but experienced the extreme dry skin, lip cracking, etc but does not regret her decision. Her skin progressed faster than her dermatologist predicted it would so her body handled it very well. Her opinion is that she would recommend it to anyone.

NWR Accutane

I had a few friends on accutane. One of them had extreme personality changes. The other few had no noticeable side effects. My little brother just started it, and the doctor told him it would get worse before it gets better. He hasn't had any problems so far, but also no dramatic improvements. Definitely talk to your doctor and be aware of possible side effects!

NWR Accutane

I took it back in high school. It cleared my skin but it became so dry and my lips cracked. I made the mistake of getting my eyebrows waxed because no one told me not to and it ripped of the top layer of my skin, you can imagine how happy I was with these blisters all over my eyebrows!
