NWR: Ack! I need a place to live!

NWR: Ack! I need a place to live!

FI and I told our landlords in April that we would probably be moving out after the wedding in August (we wanted to do the decent thing and give them plenty of notice). Tonight she called and told us she rented the apartment and the new tenant wants to move in June 15th! Not even 30 days notice! All of our money right now is budgeted towards the wedding PLUS we recently ordered our invites with our current return address How are we going to find a place to live (that allows 2 cats) thats in our non-existent budget??? We are freaking out right now

She cannot 'kick' you out.

Do you have a lease agreement? If so, it's probably 30 days.

Even if it's in an illegal apartment, she needs to give you 30 days. If not, I would tell her you plan on going to the Hall and tell them she is not giving you enough notice. Don't worry! She cannot 'evict' you unless you something illegal. She could even get into more trouble if she does not declare the income. Trust me she does not want that! She also need to notify you in 'writing'.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MOVE!!! You told her after August....she just can't kick you out. I would definetely put up a fight on this one. Where do you live, Nassau or Suffolk? Is it a 'legal' apt? What an *******!!!! I would definetely be pissed.

we're month to month, no lease, and honestly, i have no idea whether or not its an illegal apt. or not. we pay by check every month if that means anything. don't get me wrong, FI and I really wanted to get a bigger place, but we figured we'd do that with some of the money we got from the wedding and move out Sept 1st. i can really go to town hall and keep her from kicking us out so soon?

hey date twin!

there was this one apt that we had seen about a month ago that we LOVED-one of those garden apts. but they're asking for 3 mos. up front (1st/last/security). We DO have the money right now, but that's the money we need to pay off the rest of the wedding. Unfortunately, FI works on commission so its not a set monthly income. we don't want to lay out that money and god forbid he has a couple of bad months....

Then stick to your gun and leave in August like you told her. I can talk to her if you want me too!
