At the end of December my coworker told my boss that she wanted to begin looking for another job in 2006. My boss came to me right after and asked if I wanted him to hire someone else or if I wanted to do the work myself and get a 'huge raise' (his words). I opted for the huge raise. He finally let her go last month. Her last day was over 4 weeks ago. I still have not received a raise nor has he even discussed it with me. He is paying her until the end of this month. Her last check will be May 3rd. What I need advice on is wether I should wait until next week to say something. I mean I am really pissed because it was his decision to pay her. I have been handling the work just fine without her. I am very busy for most of the day, but none of the work gets neglected. Also I get really nervous when I have to talk about these kinds of things. How should I begin the conversation? What should I say? Any advice is greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: NWR - Advice (kind of long)
One of the biggest reasons that women make less money than men is because they are less likely to speak up when it comes to salary. You definitely need to say something to you boss about what you're making. Just sit him down and ask where he thinks that your job is going and ask him to reevaluate your position and salary. What's the worst that can happen?

i would definately ask for some kind of meeting or review, now that you are taking on more work...esp bc he mentioned the big raise to you.
i would mention it early next week, its not your fault he opted to pay her until next month!

I agree. You should talk to him early next week and ask about that raise the he mentioned. Above all be honest with yourself and with him about the amount of work you're doing and how much you think it's worth. HTH.
