on sunday my parents had a BBQ for my graduation. after dessert, my brother & SIL started asking me about how much my salary was going to be. (i hate when people ask how much money someone makes, i think its extremely rude & no ones business) i was getting very uncomfortable & no matter what i said they refused to end the conversation. so FH had to tell them to stop talking about it. (btw, my brother is self-employed & my SIL hasn't worked in over 8 years)
i said that since i am not working for an accounting firm i am taking a pay cut. i rather be happy where i am working, then be making lots of money & be miserable. besides i am just happy to have a job.
i am so annoyed with them. i was having such a great day celebrating being finished with college finally (it took me 6 years) & they basically ruined it for me.
would you have been annoyed in the same situation??

I would be annoyed, especially when its coming from someone (your SIL) who hasn't had to work. I would only share that information with people that I am comfortable sharing that info with. You don't have to tell them just because they are asking

i wouldnt have been totally annoyed if they only asked ONCE....but after you avoided the question and didnt answer the first time they should have gotten the hint
the fact that they kept asking woudl have pissed me off

for me personally no bc ppl asking me how much i make doesnt bother me but i know a lot of ppl who get annoyed when it comes to that subject which is perfectly normal...so i def do not think you are crazy at all....thats a touchy subject for many ppl and if they kept going at it askin you the same question you have every right to be mad! its like bringing up a subject that they dont like over and over again..im sure they would not be to happy!

It would have def ticked me off that they were asking...I dont think they were doing it on purpose to tick you off though... Some people are just nosey and dont know any better. I would have told them that if they really wanted to know my salary and they thought it was too low, they could pay me the difference from what they think I should be making...Usually shuts people up...

I don't mind if ppl ask me how much I make, but again your DEF not crazy for getting annoyed, if you didn't tell them upfront then it's none of their business and to get you all upset on your special day is just wrong of them! Don't worry about it...they probably just wanted to talk crap about how long you've been in school to only make a certain amount! But at the end of the day it only matters that your happy and have accomplished your goal! ITA with you, I rather work somewhere and be happy and not get paid that much, than to be miserable and get paid alot of money!!! BTW..CONGRATS!!!!! YOU DID IT!!!!!

Rude. I would have been upset too, but I would have tried to not let it ruin my day. I am glad your FH stepped in for you. They should have got the hint... who would keep asking when they see you do not want to go there.

I would definitely be PO'ed. I have a friend who constantly asks personal and annoying questions. Usually, I am an open book and have no problem telling anyone anything. But, when people fish for stuff, that is when I get annoyed.
