I know it's dumb, but although I have received a couple, where would I get one?

Definitely the bank!

Savings bonds can be purchased at half the listed price.

So a $50 bond costs $25....

go to the bank. The bond requires the SS# of the individual receiving the bond, but if you don't have it, just use your own.... I do it all the time

Re: NWR and Stupid ?? time..Where do I get a savings bond?

At the bank. There are different types, one lets you pay half, but they take 16 yrs (I think) to mature into the full amount. The other you pay full, and takes less time to mature (and it might collect interest sooner.) As your bank. I just had to get a bond a few weeks ago and heard about the different one. I usually get the 'pay half now' bond. Depends on what it's for too. A baby can't use it for a while so might as well get the one that takes a while to mature.

You can buy them online too.
http://www.savingsbonds.gov

Either way you don't get them right away they mail them to the person but they will give you a gift certificate-- on the website you can print a gift certificate.

I've done it online...very easy...just get the SS# (or if its a new born...use the mother's or fathers)
