Hi.. My arm is broken and its in a brace right now, not a cast. I just have a quick question to ask. I really don't want to go to the hospital on Christmas Eve.... There is a sock on my arm under the brace, and there is moisture there from sweating. And my skin is burning so bad. I know it's irritated, but I don't want to get an infection either. I don't know what to do... I'm afraid to take to brace off which could result in the bone shifting.... I'm so sorry to bother you guys with this.....

Re: NWR: Any Nurses or Drs on Right Now???
I am a nurse, but i do not specialize in orthopedics at all. but i do remember that sometimes putting baby powder in the cast helps with the itching. try sprinking some inside of it.. Let me know.

I'm neither a Doc or Nurse - but I've had my arm in a brace before and when it got itchy I would throw some goldbond's in there to dry up the moisture...I would DEFINITELY not take the brace off under no circumstances.
Can you try calling your doctor? At least you'll get his answering service who can translate over your concern.
Good Luck

Thank you so much..... I had tried baby powder and it felt like it made it burn more. But I just tried cornstarch, and it's kind of easing up a bit... Thanks so much ladies I love how I can always count on you!!!!

i am in nursing school and i remember learning that sometimes it helps to use a hair dryer on the cool setting and blow it into the cast/brace as much as possible. apparently, sometimes the cool air takes away some of the irritation. good luck!
