NWR Any nurses out there? Just fell down the stairs and my foot is swelling.

I don't have any insurance and I'm not sure if I have to see a doctor or not. I can't really move my foot because of the intense pain and swelling(but I can wiggle my toes) I can't walk on it at all. Do you think I should have a doctor take a look at it? I feel like such a spaz

First of all put in up and get some ice on it. You probably just sprained it but I would get it checked out if it doesnt feel better tomorrow. Sorry I forgot to say I hope you feel better soon
Dont feel bad I just got back into my house after LOCKING myself out of it I had to call my sister to give me the key.....

Hi, I'm not a nurse but I am incredibly accident prone so that's my authority on this issue I would seriously suggest going to the doctor or hospital tomorrow and try not to walk on your foot too much tonight. I once twisted my foot--you know how if you're wearing shoes that are too big, your foot can roll in toward your other ankle (sorry if that's confusing). Anyway, I did this and didn't think much of it til the next day when my foot was swollen and black & blue. Turned out I'd broken a really tiny bone in my foot and I had to wear one of those ski boot looking casts for 6 weeks in order for it to heal the right way. If you need an orthopedist, I suggest John Feder or Daniel Tucker at Orlin & Cohen--he's got offices in Rockville Centre, Cedarhurst, and Dr. Feder is in Patchogue on Wednesdays. He did an ankle surgery for me 3 years ago (I healed perfectly) and he's doing arthroscopy on my knee in a few weeks. I wasn't kidding when I said I was accident prone!! I also play sports which makes it even worse. Hope this helps!

Definitely stay off the foot for a day or so and keep it elevated and ice it to reduce the swelling. You probably sprained it but i would still have it checked out. Definitely ace wrap the foot/ankle as well.

Thanks I'll see how I feel tomorrow. Thank God I'm off this weekend. I hope it's not serious..my wedding is 6 weeks away
I just don't want to pay a doctor a fortune with no insurance if he just tells me to wait it out.

Walgreens sells a really good ice pack--it's the kind where you actually fit the ice pack into the pocket of this velcro band that can wrap around your ankle/foot. I think it's $15. It's awkward to get ice on the right spot of your foot sometimes.

If you end up going to the doctor, just make sure you have them take an x-ray of your foot. I think it's usually $75 per image and maybe less. Feel better!
