NWR: Any Nurses (RN's) out there? Would love to get some advice from you...

I'm thinking of going into nursing. I'm so tired of the corporate world and it's always something I wanted to do. Now that I'm married and have time to sit down and pan out my future...i've been considering it a lot more.

Can you please let me know how I can find out more about nursing, steps I need to take/schools I can go to take the courses, and every and anything else? (i.e.--will I have to quit my job to attend the classes, etc..)

Any help will greatly be appreciated from you girls.
Thank you in advance.

I am not a full RN yet - Will graduate 12/18 of this year with my BSN with my RN - I have worked full time and gone to school full time - every semester, it has been a little difficult but it will be worth it in the end. I am at Molloy in RVC. - FM me if you want any contact information from the Nursing Program there
They have a website with info for getting into the program www.molloy.edu (i think you need a 3.0 from your previous transcripts - or if you have been out of school for a while there is a math/english test you have to take to get in) - well worth it..

Im an RN - first find out programs that they offer for RN programs in your area. Call the school up and ask them what classes are necessary before starting nursing school. (Maybe you have taken these courses already)
Maybe even speaking to a dean at a college that could lead you to the right direction.
Or even..... taking a few classes like bio, anatomy .. to see if you like it so far,
HTH if you need anything else FM me !!

I am a new nurse. I graduated in december of 2007. It is really good. I have my BSN, which in some ways was worth it because you never have to go back and hospitals are pushing for that. On the other hand, you can get you associates and make just as much money, still be an RN, and save some time. I really enjoy it though. Also, there are plenty of jobs with great money. I got my job within 2 days that I applied. Within a week I got interviews at all 3 hospitals I applied at. It is a really great and rewarding field. If you do the work in school, the program is not too bad. Lastly, there is so many different things that you can do it's ridiculous. Whatever you thing is, it is avalible. Overall, if you will enjoy it....it is definately worth it.

Well I am a RN.. I just graduated in june of this year....like previously stated find out programs that work for you..can do a 2 year or a 4 year or if you have a BS OR BA can do an accelarrated program. I have a BS in Bio/Soc but I felt that accelarrated would be to rushed for me but quite possible it can be for you! Downstate Medical Center has an excellent program for acceralated students and Stonybrook...They are out there if you are looking for accelarrated.. just FM if you want more details! Also look at schools that have a good passing rate on the NCLEX that is important!

You will need to take prerequistes like Anatomy, Chemistry ,etc. There are options..

Welcome to world of nursing!!!!

I will have my RN soon and im currently an LPN (and I do love my job)! You won't get into any nursing school until you compleate the 'pre-requirements' they include anatomy and physiology, chem, mircobiology and some other painful classes. Look into taking them at a community college. I met my FH in anatomy and physiology. Try and find a two year program. You want to have RN behind you name asap. Once you start working you can get your BSN and you employer will pay for it. BSN's hardley make more money but they do have chances to move up and get their masters. Im a ceritifed expert on long island nursing schools and rules etc. ask me anything. Don't be fooled but college that promise 2 years... those pre-requs are hard and can take alot longer then colleges lead on.

I would love to be a nurse to. But I've gotten a little scared reading online that its nearly impossible to work full time and go to school at night. Right now I work 8-5 and would need to continue that to be able to afford to live. Any advice?

it is not impossible to work full time and go to school..there are schools out there where you can take evening courses/weekend courses..they are out there it just take some looking into...like I stated before in my previous post..if you have a BS OR BA you can do an accelarated program which is a year..this one would probably conflict with working full time but it doesnt hurt to look into it...good luck and if you have any questions just FM...

i'm not a nurse but i'm a physical therapist, and i can tell you its a wise choice to consider nursing. the demand right now is super high....theres a huge shortage. excellent nurses with tons of experience are all retiring. I have the utmost respect for nurses, the job is a labor of love. gl!
