NWR: anyone been on norwegian cruise from NY to caribbean?

i wanted to plan a cruise from NY to someplace warm for next summer ... but the only cruise line i see that does this is norwegian ...

DH and i have been on their cruise to nowhere and were EXTREMELY unimpressed. they didn't have any entertainment or anything (like trivia, contests / competitions, etc). I don't know if it's just the overnight cruise, or all of their cruises that are like this though.

Has anyone been on this cruise before that can enlighten me if it's worth it? i don't want to be bored to death for the 3 days we'd be at sea ...

ncl is good if u want a laid back, wear your pjs arounds the ship type of cruise.

is it a HUGE party cruise? No.

is there entertianment, shows, games, trivia ...YES


cruise to nowhere doesnt have that stuff. they make a KILLLLING on booze. thats abuot it.

the thing is, DH and I were just on a Carnival cruise for our HM ... they had TONS of things outside of the normal shows and whatnot. Every half hour, there was a new thing to do (if we wanted). Trivia games, contests (like hairy chest contest, rubber chicken throwing contest, best drink concoction contest, etc) .... when there were no shows, we still had things to do other than the pool.

I wanna make sure that norwegian has the same (or similar)

Itinerary would be:
Sat - New York (Manhattan), NY
Sun - At Sea
Mon - Port Canaveral, FL
Tue - Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas
Wed - Nassau, Bahamas
Thu - At Sea
Fri - At Sea
Sat - New York (Manhattan), NY

ncl is def classier than carnival lol

but ive done that itinerary 3 times with NCL.. 2x spirit 1x on gem

We did a similar itinerary in Nov. 2006. If you don't mind the days at sea, then it's great. There are definitely shows, games, trivia, etc. And a casino. But you're right, those days are probably not great pool days.

At the Florida stop, a lot of people go to Universal Studios or Disney World or something, but I think FH and I rented a car and drove around (the weather wasn't great). The Great Stirrup Cay island is pretty, but it's basically a beach day (snorkeling, swimming, etc). There's no touristy stuff to do. Nassau has a bunch of touristy type stuff. I think there's a Hard Rock there, and Senor Frogs. And shopping.

Feel free to FM me for more info! Its definitely worth thinking about - its super convenient not having to fly anywhere (but the trade off is more days at sea)...

great stirrup is beautiful.... but watch out for the stingrays lol

nassau... take the #2 or #10 bus to CABLE BEACH!!!!!!! best beachh.. u go thru one of the all inclusive resorts and hang out on their property. theres a casino in the resort as well as a starbucks. no1 bothers u. i think its $2 each way.

I did that itineary on Norwegian Dawn, and I loved it!
Great Stirrup Cay is gorgeous and relaxing. The perfect place to have a bummy day the beach
I loved Nassu too. We took the shuttle over to Paradise Island and the spent the day at the Sheraton's beach. That beach is so beautiful! One of my favorite beaches.
What I loved about Norwegian is the fact that is free style so you can sit with your DH rather than with a random couple you don't know.

Nothing booked just yet ... still looking around and finding the best cruises ... it's still waaaay early (not looking to go till next year) so no need to finalize anything yet

Never did Norwegian because i love Carnival just way too much. You didnt see any Carnival cruises leaving out of NY for the summer?! I've done 3...thats very strange.

My sister did carnical and norwegian and she liked carnival hands down.

I'm trying to avoid flying because i absolutely hate it ... plus, i always feel like i waste an entire day when i fly because i'm soooo exhausted when i land.

there are a couple of cruises that leave from NY but end in Puerto Rico ... i may do something like that ... we'll see though

i did a carnival cruise from NY to turks and bahamas. It was nice the food was good but I just thought the whole cruise line was a little 'vegas lights'

we parked next to the Norweigen EPIC... that ship was amazing... even though i didnt go inside from our tiny azz boat it looked like so much fun
