I wanna start getting in shape but I dont know if Im totally feeling a crazy cardio type of workout. Are either of these really good at toning your body or is it just about stretching/relaxing? I have no idea but Im interested!

Re: NWR Anyone do yoga or pilates?
Yoga and Pilates are relaxing, and what they do is stretch and tone the muscles so you appear to have a long lean body. In order to lose weight and get maximum results, they recommend that you do some form of cardio a min of 4 times a week. If you jump rope for 15 min, you can burn up as many calories as power walking for 30 min.
There is a type of Yoga where you are placed in an extremely hot room and sweat through the routine, but its not recommended to those who faint or have high blood pressure. That is the one that aids in weight loss.
Pilates are great too, and I feel it tones better than yoga and aids better in weight loss.
You can also try Belly Dancing for Cardio, which isn't so extreme or you can try walking for 20 min at a moderate pace.

Re: NWR Anyone do yoga or pilates?
i did pilates with my cousin for a year before her wedding. we really enjoyed it. we went once a week, every week. we never missed. i don't think either of us lost weight but we felt good about ourselfs.
now i go to the gym on saturdays & take a step class. unfortunettly with work & school i don't have any time available to do anything else. oh & when its warm out my mom & I walk around a golf course need my house. (3 miles) we will do that 3 times a week

Re: NWR Anyone do yoga or pilates?
I LOVE pilates. After doing it for only a few months, I saw a change in my waistline. I think you lose inches more than weight.
I also LOVE yoga, but for relaxation and flexibility purposes more than weight loss.

Re: NWR Anyone do yoga or pilates?
I've done both Bikram Yoga and Pilates. IMO I LOVE pilates so much more than yoga. Only because I can not for the life of me relax my mind and body at the same time, LOL.. I gave it more than 6 months of yoga and still I wasnt getting the poses, etc.
Pilates is more for me, love the stretch with the reformer. Unfortunalty since moving to Brooklyn, I cant afford it anymore. When I was on LI I was going religiously.
